camelくんがhipについて書いていたので，小山本はPくんの「尻」拭いをします。だいぶ前のものですが，「Raging Rooney」についての解説です。

・embarrassing は「まごつく」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）といった不自然なニュアンスを含むので「“謝罪”をせざるをえなくなった→ばつの悪い」，booingは動詞に訳し「ブーイングを浴びせるファンに暴言を吐く」とそれぞれ訳してみました。
a grovelling apology
・grovellingは「卑屈な, 奴隷根性の, こびへつらう；〈思考などが〉下卑た, 卑俗な」という意味で（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』同上），ここでは副詞的に「手のひらを返したように謝罪した」とするのはどうでしょうか。

・snarlは「…をとげとげしく言う, どなって…を表す｟out｠」という意味で，snarling a message downで「テレビカメラに向かって暴言を吐く姿が画面に写しださされた」。

・on reflection 「冷静になってみると」と訳せます。in the heat of the moment that came out ofはここでは文脈から「怒りにまかせて」に相当します。For my part はas far as I concernedと同じで「私に関する限り」という意味です。ここでは「自分としては」と訳してみました。my actions at the end of the gameのat the end of the gameは文脈でわかるのでここでは省略。「自分のプレーと試合結果に苛立ち切れてしまい，ああいうことを言ってしまった。自分としては自らの行為によって生じたどんな罪に対しても謝罪する」と訳してみました。

・fractiousは「不きげんな, 怒りっぽい, けんか好きの」という意味で（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』同上），「試合は荒れに荒れ，終了後にイライラを暴言という形でぶちまけてしまった」としてみました。なお，abjectはみじめな引き分けという意味で，サッカーの母国のprideがにじんだ表現。
・minnows Algeria
minnowには「（一般に）小魚, ざこ；取るに足らぬ人［もの］，〘釣り〙ミノウに似せた擬似餌（ぎじえ），弱小の組織［会社］」という意味があり（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』同上），ここでは「格下のアルジェリア」と訳せます。なお，日本の「メダカ」はJapanese minnowと意訳されることがあります。

countは「（▼進行形不可）（…の）価値がある, たいせつである, （…の）考慮に値する｟for ...｠；有効である」という意味で（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』同上），over-hypedは「過剰宣伝の」（英辞郎on the WEB）。「過度に騒がれたような実力を証明することができなかった」と訳してみました。

・peak には「頂点」から転じて「最大の」という意味があり，ここでは「2億1300万にものぼる瞬間最高視聴率」と訳してみました。

・clickは「〈劇などが〉成功する, ヒットする；〈物事が〉うまくいく」という意味で（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』同上），ここでは名詞的に「エースの不調」と訳してみました。
・must find their teethは，England代表の愛称がthe Three Lionsでしたので「今一度，らしさを取り戻さなければならない」と訳してみました。

・cementには「結合するもの；（友情などの）きずな」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）という意味があり，それをtrapできないということなので，「チームワークを乱す」あるいは「チームにとけ込めない」と訳せます。

・jeeredは「やじる」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。

・ここでyouはRooneyのこと。言い換えればmoronは「軽度精神遅滞者；｟略式｠ばか」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）という意味で，you pampered overpaid moronを書き換えると，Rooney pampered himselfで「勝ってきままにふるまう」という意味になります。「わがままで幼稚な給料泥棒，何様のつもり」と訳してみました。
