以前も採り上げたNewsweek（08/16/10）のSCOPEのEastern Demand Fuels West’s Growthという記事から，英語表現を拾っていきます。
Two years ago, economists ridiculed the idea of “decoupling”―that the economies of China and other emerging powers could move independently of developments in Western nations. The deep recession in the West, which was a blip in most emerging markets’ growth, refuted them.
記事のblipですが，これは「ブリップ（レーダーなどに映る光の影；物体があることを示す）」のことです（『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』第4版，学研教育出版）。そして，そこから転じて「一時的な変動」という意味があります（同上）。記事の部分は「市場における一時的な変動」と解釈できます。
ちなみにこの他にもblipには「ピーという音」や「（ニュース放送などの）一端」という意味もあります（同上）。（院生 小山本）
