Japan, U.S., S. Korea to hold summit next week in Netherlands
Japan, the United States and South Korea will hold a summit on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in the Netherlands on Monday and Tuesday, Tokyo and Seoul announced Friday.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, U.S. President Barack Obama and South Korean President Park Geun Hye are expected to use the meeting in The Hague to reaffirm cooperation in addressing issues such as nuclear nonproliferation and North Korea's nuclear ambitions.
It will be Abe's first opportunity to hold formal talks with the South Korean leader, amid bilateral tensions over perceptions of history and a territorial dispute, and will give the United States' two major allies in the region a chance to improve relations.
