止まらない中国漁船による珊瑚の密猟。巡視船を増やし警戒を強化するという海上保安庁の戦術は功を奏すのでしょうか。
これまでにも採り上げられていますが，poachは「を密猟[密漁]する」あるいは「(密猟[密漁]目的で)〈他人の土地〉に侵入する」という意味の単語（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。このpoachは古期フランス語で「袋に入れる」という意味があり，そこから派生して「密猟する」という意味になりました（『研究社 新英和中辞典』研究社）。加えて，poached eggでお馴染みの「〜を形を崩さずに熱湯でゆでる」も中期フランス語の「袋」に由来します。
ちなみに語源は同じですが，pouch（小袋）とは綴りが異なるので注意が必要です。（Koyamamoto）

Japan Coast Guard changes approach to Chinese coral poachers
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) has begun arresting captains of Chinese fishing boats poaching coral in Japanese territorial waters, demonstrating a shift in policy.
With over 40 Chinese fishing boats remaining in the waters near the Ogasawara Islands southeast of Tokyo, the JCG is aiming to clear poachers out of the area by dispatching additional patrol boats and stepping up security.
According to the JCG, the 44-year-old captain of a Chinese fishing boat operating illegally in Japanese waters southwest of Yomejima Island in the Ogasawara island chain was arrested on suspicion of violating the Law on Regulation of Fishing Operation by Foreign Nationals shortly after 7 a.m. on Nov. 21.
