'King Kazu' to play on in J.League - aged 48

Former Japan striker Kazuyoshi Miura insisted he had no plans to slink off into retirement as he turned 48 on Thursday, ahead of his 30th year as a professional footballer.

Though the pin-up looks have been replaced by a few tell-tale wrinkles, “King Kazu” will again lace up his boots for Japanese second division club Yokohama FC despite making only a couple of appearances last year and closing in on his half-century.

今回取り上げるのは、”(again) lace up one’s boots”という表現です。”lace up”をThe Free Dictionary by FARLEXで調べてみると、” to tighten or fasten (clothes or footwear) with laces”とあり、「靴のひもをきつく締める」となりますが、どうもしっくりません。今回の記事でのこの表現は、「現役を続ける」を意味していると思いました。三浦知良さんは選手としては困難な年齢のため、この表現に選手としての熱い思いを感じました。そのため、「キングカズは、昨年数試合のみの出場で、かつ50歳に近いのにも関わらず、J2の横浜FCのために再びピッチに立つ、現役を続行する」などと訳せるでしょうか。(ninetails)
