今回取り上げるのは、“in tandem with”という表現です。“tandem”と聞くと、バイクの「二人乗り」，スカイダイビングの「タンデムジャンプ」や2008年から2012年までのロシアの「タンデム体制」などを連想します。
そこでLDOCEで調べてみると、“doing something together or at the same time as someone or something else”と定義がありました。さらに『ジーニアス英和辞典G4 大修館書店』では、「〜と力を合わせて、〜と同時に」とありました。“tandem”は「横並び」ではなく「縦並び」なのですね。(ninetails)
