英国で大人気のドラマでも、他の国ではあまり人気が出てないようです。
Too downbeat for America, too rude for Japan: does Bridget Jones get lost in translation?
Furukawa’s research notes that Bridget’s swearing is censored: the first film’s use of the phrase “the bloody bastard” is bowdlerised in the Japanese subtitles as “Usuratonkachi no rokudenashi” (literally, ‘a foolish good-for-nothing’), while “Oh, bugger bugger!” is left with no subtitled translation.
According to Furukawa, “the nuance is modified” and “Bridget’s foul-mouthed character is lost”. At a crucial moment in the first movie, when Bridget believes she has lost Darcy forever, she runs barefoot out into the snow, and exclaims: “Bollocks!” In the Japanese subtitles, this becomes, “Tsumetai!” (‘It’s cold!’), and the real, emotional meaning of her line is left out.
With a new Bridget Jones novel, The Diaries, hitting bookshops on October 11, it seems that the world’s Bridgexperts won’t be running out of material any time soon.

今回取り上げる単語は、bollocksです。日本語訳では「冷たい！」と訳されていたようですが、本当の意味合いはどういったものなのでしょうか。
Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 “the testicles”、 “nonsense; rubbish (used to express contempt or disagreement, or as an exclamation of annoyance)”とのことでした。どうやらイギリスのスラングのようです。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「たわごと、睾丸、くそったれ」などと載っておりました。
ちなみにbollockとsを後ろにつけない場合は、「に小言を言う」という動詞になります。
以上をふまえると、「冷たい！」という訳は違うというのには納得できます。（Ｇｏｍｅｚ）
