Hashimoto adds to Japan’s haul at worlds

Soichi Hashimoto captured the gold medal in the men’s 73-kilogram division in his debut at judo’s world championships in Budapest on Wednesday.

In the final, Hashimoto beat Rio Olympic silver medalist Rustam Orujov of Azerbaijan by yusei in extra time.

In the women’s 57-kilogram class, Tsukasa Yoshida won the silver, falling in the final to Rio silver medalist Sumiya Dorjsuren of Mongolia.

Hashimoto’s match was bound to significantly determine his judo career.

“I just fought with the determination that my loss would mean the end,” he said.

Having cut off his exit routes, the 26-year-old late bloomer experienced his happiest moment.

Merriam-Websterには “a person who reaches full competence or maturity” と定義されています。
