The move is in recognition of the events in Catalonia, where the regional government was deposed after a unilateral declaration of independence.
Protests were held against the detention of the region's ex-leaders.
Meanwhile, Spain's constitutional court has ruled that the declaration of independence was "unconstitutional and void".

“scuffle” を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典第5版』(大修館) によると「掴み合う、取っ組み合う、乱闘する」といった意味があるといえます。次に英英辞典を見てみると “a short and sudden fight,especially one involving a small number of people” と定義されていて、突発的で小規模な衝突をする様を表しているとわかります。また今回の文脈での “scuffle” は名詞形であるため、「喧嘩、小競り合い」と訳せるでしょう。
“scuffle” はもともと古ノルド語で「押す」という意義をもつ “skufa” から派生した語であり、「双方の肩などを押し合う」といったニュアンスを含むため “fight” よりも程度の軽い衝突であると推察できます。ちなみに古ノルド語とはスカンディナヴィア人によって用いられ8〜14世紀頃まで台頭した語で、現代のアイスランド語の基になった語だそうです。
先月の独立宣言で沸いたカタルーニャ政府でしたが今回の憲法審査会の発表でこの独立騒動はどのような展開を迎えるのかわからなくなりました。(Hapidra)

今年９月に第３子妊娠を発表したイギリスのキャサリン妃がチャリティに参加しました。

今年度のユーキャン新語・流行語大賞ノミネート語が発表されました。

Thirty candidates for the buzzword of the year were announced Thursday, covering everything from popular poop kanji workbook to fake news to Hifumin, the nickname for a 77-year-old shogi pro who retired in June after wowing fans for decades with his aggressive playing styles and charm.

Products that hit the market and sold well made the list, such as Unko kanji doriru (Poop kanji drills). The popular workbook series features the word unko (poop) in every single example on how a kanji is used in a sentence, as a helpful mnemonic to keep children interested in learning kanji.
“mnemonic” /nɪmάnɪks/を取りあげます。「うんこ漢字ドリル」は子供たちが「なにこれー」と言いながら楽しんで漢字の学習ができることから「記憶」に関する言葉だと思いました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）で確認すると「記憶を助けるもの」とありました。Oxford living dictionaryによると“mindful”を表すギリシア語が語源となっているそうです。

サンシャイン水族館は、水槽内の酸素量の調節がうまくいかなかったことで、大量の魚が死んでしまうというアクシデントに見まわれました。
Over 1,000 fish die after oxygen supply error at Tokyo aquarium
More than 1,000 fish of 24 species died in their tank at Tokyo’s Sunshine Aquarium because of a mistakenly reduced oxygen supply, an aquarium official announced Nov. 8.
A keeper at the popular tourist attraction in Toshima Ward discovered 1,235 marine creatures kept in the large Sunshine Lagoon tank had died early that morning.
Eagle rays and double-lined fusiliers were among the dead. Of the surviving sea creatures, the facility resumed exhibiting zebra sharks and about 70 other specimens from the morning of Nov. 9. It intends to gradually reintroduce the number of creatures on display.
Medicine had been put into the water tank on the morning of Nov. 7 to treat some of the creatures that were suffering from disease.
Staff removed protein from the tank and temporarily stopped the machine that supplies its oxygen, aiming to increase the medicine’s efficacy. Oxygen continued to be delivered through other equipment, but apparently in quantities insufficient to keep all the fish alive.
