Hanyu hints at attempting quadruple axel jump

Yuzuru Hanyu has become the first figure skater in 66 years to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the men’s singles. Now he’s set his eye on a feat no skater has ever achieved — landing a quadruple axel.

“I can say from the bottom of my heart that it’s been worth devoting my life to figure skating,” the 23-year-old said at a press conference at the Japan House on Sunday, as he savored his latest Olympic title.

Hanyu wasn’t ready to address the question of whether he will seek an Olympic three-peat, saying: “I haven’t thought about the next Olympics yet. I have a sense that I’ve achieved my dreams and accomplished my missions.”

However, he also said there are things left undone in the sport, pointing to successfully performing a quad axel.

“Chasing someone else is an easy position,” Uno said. “But as quickly as I can, I want to be a skater who can compete neck-and-neck” with Hanyu.

LDOCEには “if two competitors or groups are neck and neck in a competition or race, they are level with each other” と定義されています。
