今回取り上げるのは、blue-collarです。まず、LDOCEで意味を引いてみると、“blue collar workers do physical work, rather than working in officers”とあり，『ウィズダム英和辞典』には，「肉体労働者の，ブルーカラーの(労働者の作業服の色が青いことから)」と載っていました。
また，他の色でも職業を表すことができるようです。例として，white-collarは，ワイシャツにネクタイ姿というイメージから「事務職の，(肉体労働者でなく)頭脳労働の」という意味を持ち，pink-collarは，看護師や秘書など伝統的な女性の職業を、さらにiron-collarはロボットを指すことが分かりました。まとめて覚えようと思います。（Otoyo）
