Japanese customs seize record 1,501 kg of illegal stimulants in 2016

Methods employed to smuggle stimulants into Japan are becoming increasingly sophisticated and there have been cases in which traffickers have tried to smuggle massive amounts of drugs into Japan on vessels. Customs officials across the country are becoming increasing wary of such attempts.

A customs officer found 2 kilograms of stimulants kneaded into black resin inside a suitcase that a German national in his 40s had attempted to bring into Japan at Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture in August last year. It was the first time that such a method of smuggling stimulants had been found in Japan.

　knead /niːd/という動詞に注目してみました。

　Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 “work (moistened flour or clay) into dough or paste with hands”と定義されておりました。

　『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「〈練り粉・粘土など〉をこねる；〈パン・陶器など〉をこねて作る」と載っておりました。また「マッサージする」といった意味合いでも使用できます。

　記事ではknead intoとなっておりますが、 “knead the pizza dough”（「ピザの生地をこねる」のように前置詞をつけなくても使うことができます。（Gomez)
