For animated films, however, it is a common practice everywhere to opt for a dubbed version because, often, the main target audience is children. it is simply easier for kids to follow a story when hearing it in their native language.

　今回取り上げる単語はopt / άpt / です。『ジーニアス英日辞典』第４版（大修館）では、「[どちらかを]選ぶ、決める；[…を/…する方を]選ぶ[for, into, in favor of / to do]」とありました。『ロングマン現代英英辞典』には、”to choose one thing or do one thing instead of another”とありました。日本語になっている「オプション」の動詞ですね。
　語源はラテン語のoptare（選ぶ）に由来します。optは二つ選択肢があり、そのどちらか一つを選ぶといった意味になります。
　また、optは短いのでメディアでも好まれる言葉です。(amphibian)
