−−−Charles Romuald Gardes -su nombre de nacimiento- fue inscrito el 11 de diciembre de 1890 en el registro civil de Toulouse, Francia. / Asimismo se reveló que Gardel, que pasó la mayor parte de su vida en Argentina, llegó a ese país a los dos años y tres meses de edad en brazos de su mamá, Berthe Gardes, quien fue expulsada de su familia en Francia por ser madre soltera, un pecado imperdonable y una vergüenza en aquella época. （中略） valiéndose de un recurso legal, fue al consulado uruguayo donde mostró un documento falso que lo hacía originario de Tacuarembó (Uruguay) y nacido en 1887, tres años antes de su verdadero nacimiento (…) En vez de poner Gardes, se inscribió como Gardel, su nombre artístico. Poco después, él pidió y obtuvo la nacionalidad argentina （以下略、引用終わり）
※ 要は、フランスで "Charles Romuald Gardes" として生まれたものの、当時は恥とされた父無し子を産んだため家族を追われた母親 Berthe Gardes に抱かれてアルゼンチンへ渡ったのが２歳３ヶ月。１９１４年ガルデル２４歳の時に１次大戦勃発の際、愛着のないフランスのために兵として前線へ送られることを避けるため、本来フランス市民として求められた在アルゼンチン仏大使館での登録をせずに通した。
ところが１９２０年スペイン公演のためビザ取得をしようにもフランス市民として登録されておらず身分証明も持っていなかったため、一計を案じた彼はウルグアイ領事館へ出頭して１８８７年同国生まれかつ苗字を芸名 Gardel とするニセの出生証明を提出してウルグアイ人になりすまし、その後間もなくアルゼンチン国籍を取得した、と云うことらしい。
生年・出生地が混乱した理由がこれで明らかになったことに。母を追い出したフランスごときのために戦うことを拒否し、国籍選択をせまられ、育ててくれたアルゼンチンに帰化した云うことですから、立派なアルゼンチン人であることが改めて確認されただけ、と解します。嘘も joven （西語では 「ホーベン」 と発音します）。
