「Appleが「iPod touch」よりは大きいが「MacBook」よりは小さい製品を開発中であるとうわさされている。同社が過去に申請した特許や、製造委託を受けているメーカーから漏れてくる話から、7～8インチのスクリーンを備えた中間サイズのガジェットが開発されており、2010年の早い時期に発表される予定ではないかと推測される。その製品はこれまで、「タブレット型デバイス」「メディアパッド」「iPod touchを大きくしたようなもの」など、さまざまな呼び方をされてきた。」

「米Googleは年末までに、自社のサイトで電子書籍の販売を開始する予定だ。ニューヨークで開催された年次「BookExpo」カンファレンスで同社が明らかにした。Googleが発売するのは、ユーザーが各種の電子デバイス上で閲覧できる電子書籍だ。これにより同社は、電子書籍端末「Kindle」で注目を集めている米Amazonや、電子書籍リーダーを提供しているソニーなどの企業と対抗することになる。New York Timesの報道によると、Googleの戦略提携担当ディレクター、トム・ターベイ氏は、Googleでは出版社による価格設定を認める方針であると述べ、デジタル版を紙媒体と同じ料金設定にすることも認める可能性が高いことを示唆した。Googleの電子書籍は、インターネットにアクセス可能な任意のデバイスで利用できる。」

MacとiPodの販売台数　4月は減少

「NPD Groupの集計データによれば、AppleのMacおよびiPodの小売販売台数は、2月と同じく、4月にも落ち込みを見せたという。Piper JaffrayのアナリストであるGene Munster氏は、NPDの4月のAppleの月間販売データの概要を分析した。同氏は、米国時間5月18日に発表した調査ノートで、4月のMacの販売が、前年同月比で1.8％減となったことを明らかにしている。」

次世代携帯の基地局開設、4社申請

「総務省は8日、2010年にも実用化する次世代携帯電話サービスについて、ＮＴＴドコモなど4社から基地局開設の申請があったと発表した。同省は審査や電波監理審議会への諮問などの手続きを経たうえで、早ければ6月にも正式に決定する見込みだ。基地局開設を申請したのは、ＮＴＴドコモのほか、イー・モバイル、ソフトバンクモバイル、ＫＤＤＩ。各社は10年以降に順次、サービスを開始する見通し。認定から5年以内にサービスの利用可能地域を50％以上に広げることが求められる。4社合計の設備投資額は1兆円前後になるとみられる。」

2008年度のスマートフォン市場は前年比68％増の158万台

「矢野経済研究所は、2008年度のスマートフォン市場に関するレポートを発表した。2008年7月～2009年3月にかけて、国内キャリアやメーカー、海外メーカーなどに対するヒアリングなどで調査が行われ、出荷台数や今後の動向予測が明らかにされている。 2008年度の国内におけるスマートフォン市場は、前年度の94万台から68％増加し、158万台の出荷となった。同調査では、「携帯電話市場が低迷する一方、海外メーカー製端末が相次いで導入されたことや、キャリア各社が積極的な導入に踏み切ったことが増加要因」としている。」

地デジ、南米攻略に前進　ペルーが日本・ブラジル方式採用を正式決定

「ペルー政府は23日、テレビの地上デジタル放送に日本方式を採用して、2011年の放送開始を目指すと発表した。日本方式の採用は海外ではブラジルについで２カ国目。南米ではほかに、アルゼンチンがブラジルと地上デジタル放送で協力することで合意しており日本方式の採用が有力になっている。ペルーは日本・ブラジル方式のほか米国や欧州、中国の方式を比較検討していた。日本・ブラジル方式は山間部での放送に強いことや、災害放送が可能なことなどが評価された。また「日本から申し出があった経済協力も、理由のひとつ」（コルネホ運輸・通信相）としている。」

2008年度の携帯電話出荷台数が過去最低を記録、減少傾向は2010年度まで継続

「MM総研は4月22日、2008年度通期（2008年4月～2009年3月)の国内携帯電話出荷状況を発表した。通期出荷台数は、2000年度の調査開始以来初めて4000万台を下回り、過去最低となったという。2008年度通期の出荷台数は、前年同期比29.3％減の3589万台となった。半期ごとの出荷台数では、上期が同21.2％減の1981万台、下期は同37.3％減の1608万台となった。」
