今日のテキスト NASA PROBE REVEALS PLUTO PLAIN

Officials at the U.S. space agency NASA have released an image that sheds new light on the makeup of the dwarf planet Pluto. The photo shows a vast frozen plain that scientists estimate to be about 100 million years old.
The close-up image of Pluto's southern hemisphere was taken by the New Horizons spacecraft during its flyby earlier in the week. The scientists say the icy plain is covered with irregularly shaped segments that are separated by what appear to be shallow troughs about every 20 kilometers.
New Horizons used seven observation devices to collect images and other data when it made its closest approach to Pluto on Tuesday. It is the first spacecraft to come as close as 12,000 kilometers to the dwarf planet.
Previously-released images recorded by New Horizons showed mountains as high as 3,500 meters. NASA scientists say they will release more data sent from the spacecraft as it flies away from Pluto. They say the information they have received so far represents a mere fraction of the total.
