Artificail Intelligence Research Journal
人工知能分野に新しいオンライン論文誌が加わります。2012年9月にArtificail Intelligence Researchの第１号が発刊される予定です。
カナダ政府のCanadian Center of Science and Educationの関連部門が発行するオープンアクセスの論文誌ですが、掲載料はUS$200と常識的な価格に設定されています。
Editorial Review Boardに加わるよう招待を受けましたので、ここで宣伝している次第です。
最近のオープンアクセス論文誌の中には単なる営利目的の怪しげなもの（＝ほどんどまともな査読をせずに論文を掲載し、掲載料で儲けることを目的にしているもの）が見受けられますが、この論文誌は学術的な価値をきちんと維持していくものだと判断して、協力することにしました。たとえば、「掲載料が論文の掲載の妨げになることは望まない」とHP上で表明されています。

数式入力
知っている人も多いと思うのですが、WordやPowerPointで数式を入力する際にTeXのコマンドが使えるのです。
たとえば、数式ツールの状態で
\sum_i x_i <SPACE>
と入力すると、が入力されます。

BioLexicon
EUのBootstrepプロジェクトの中で BioLexiconという生物学向けのテキストマイニング用辞書の編纂に携わりました。この辞書に関する論文がBMC Bioinformaticsに採録になったという連絡を受けました。BMCはオンラインジャーナルですので、たぶん２〜３カ月のうちに掲載になるでしょう。
著者が１５人も並ぶ大論文の著者のひとりにすぎませんが、かなり苦労して創り上げた研究成果が、多くの人の目にとまる論文誌に掲載されるのは嬉しい限りです。

シカゴ校
先週はシカゴとNYに行っていました。シカゴに行ったのは、本学のシカゴ校TTICとの共同研究についての打ち合わせのためです。１時間ほどの講演に加えて、何人かの研究員とミーティングをしてきました。４日間の滞在中ほとんど午前・午後とミーティングがアレンジされていて、かなり濃厚な日々でした。シカゴ校は機械学習ではCOEと呼べるレベルに達しており、優秀な人材が集まっています。話していても面白い。
夜は、ハイドパークを離れてシカゴのダウンタウンのレストランGreen Zebra、Melcat、Takeshiなどに連れて行ってもらい、アメリカとは思えない（失礼！）気のきいた食事をさせてもらいました。
続いて、NYでは関根先生と打ち合わせをして、１時間ほどテキストマイニングに関する講演をしてきました。１泊分しか日程がとれなかったため、駆け足でしたがNYの活気を実感してきました。この夏に実習のためNYUに滞在中のうちの修士の学生も元気そうで安心しました。夜は関根さん他4人で日本食レストランに行ってきましたが、NYは食事の選択肢が広いから良いですね。
