先日、伊丹駐屯地で実施されていた日米共同指揮所演習ヤマサクラ６１の現場に行ってきました。思わぬ知人らとも再会できた楽しい出張でした。(^_^)
伊丹駐屯地とヤマサクラ演習は共に約５年ぶりでした。陸部隊の忙しい雰囲気はホント懐かしいですね。テントの並びや、各エリアの仕切り方など、あまり変わってなく、故郷に戻った感じでした。(^^;
当時のほとんど睡眠時間がなかった通訳勤務を思い出す…ありゃマジで激務だったけど、すごーく楽しかった！(^_^)
演習に参加した皆様、お疲れ様でした！

The other day, I went to the US-Japan bilateral command post exercise (CPX) Yamasakura 61 held in Camp Itami. It was a fun business trip where I reunited with a few folks I didn't expect to see. (^_^)
It's been about five years since I visited both Camp Itami and the Yamasakura exercise. The busy activities of the ground units were really nostalgic to me. The way the tents were aligned, the areas cordoned off, etc. didn't change much, and kinda felt like I came back to my hometown or something. (^^;
I recall barely having any time to sleep as a translator back then... it was really tough work, but at the same time, totally fun! (^_^)
To all who participated in the exercise, great job!

この間、旦那と了法寺に行ったら、おみくじの缶バッジが新しく変わってたのでつい買っちゃった。(^^;
前回のシリーズでは「シークレット」のバッジばかり当ててしまい、肝心の「超吉」だけ取り損ねました。今回はシークレット以外のモノを当てました。もうちょいでコンプリートできたのに…！今度行く時に絶対シークレットをゲットしなきゃ！(>_<)
因みに私の今年のおみくじは小吉でした。まずまずですな。(^_^)

The other day, when hubby and I visited Ryohoji and saw that they had a new series of button badges, we bought a few without blinking. (^^;
In the previous set, we kept getting the "secret" badge, but was never able to obtain the "Cho-kichi" badge. This time, we got all the badges except for the secret badge. We were so close to completing the set, too...! Must get the secret next time around! (>_<)
Also, I got the "sho-kichi" omikuji this year. Not too shabby. (^_^)

米軍はとうとう新兵訓練で支給されてたＢＣＧ（避妊メガネ）というブサイクなメガネを廃止することを決定し、代わりに避妊効果がほとんどない普通で割とイケてるメガネを支給することを決めたそうな。なんという悲しいニュース！(>_<)

「ひ、避妊メガネ効果が無いとブートキャンプで妊娠する女性兵士が出てくるじゃないか！！」と反論したいが、海兵隊の鬼教官が24時間監視している限り、そんなことは絶対ありえないけど…(^^;
私はあのブサイクメガネが好きだったとは言わないけど…ブートキャンプと職種学校を終え、初任部隊に就いた際（強制的に）ＢＣＧから控えめな軍支給メガネに替えてもらい、私にとってＢＣＧは新兵から一人前の海兵隊員になった証で、特別な思い出の品です。
これから入隊する隊員にとっては嬉しいニュースかもしれないが、私は少し寂しい。世界から笑い話が一つ減った気がする。
さらば、避妊メガネよ。お疲れ様でした！ううっ。く(T_T)
The graceful end to fugly BCGs...
The US DOD recently decided to replace BCGs (Birth Control Glasses) issued at boot camps with a rather normal to cool looking glasses which have little to no birth-control effects. Such heartbreaking news! (>_<)

One might argue, "W-Without any birth control glasses, the female recruits in USMC boot camp might get pregnant during boot camp!!" but that'll never happen under the watchful eyes of the evil drill instructors 24-7... (^^;
Now, I won't say that I like the BCGs, but... after boot camp and MOS school, I changed out my BCGs to a less obtrusive military-issue glasses (because I was ordered to), so it's a special memento that marked my progression from being a fresh boot to a full-fledged Marine.

It might be good news for the incoming recruits from now on, but I'm a little sad. There's one less funny story in the world to tell.

陸上自衛隊の総合火力演習を特集した「そうかえん。」同人誌が気になったので、買っちゃいました。^^
中身は去年の総火演の取材で、入場券の応募方法と会場への行き方から、プログラムの概要と花形装備の写真やカワイイ擬人化イラストと詳細や、ミリめしまで、情報満載の一冊です。７４式戦車、チヌークとアパッチヘリのしぶカワなイラストが好きです。(>_<)
地味〜な陸自の制服を可愛く描く技術、スゲーです。(*_*)

Enjoy the JGSDF Fuji Firepower Review with the "Soukaen." doujinshi.
I was curious about "Soukaen." doujinshi that covered the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Fuji Firepower Review, so I bought a copy. (^_^)
It was basically about last year's firepower exercise, pack-full of info covering topics from acquiring tickets and how to get there, program overview with photos and cute humanoid illustrations of featured equipment/weaponry, to military rations. I particularly liked the nice illos of the Type 74 tank, Chinook and Apache helos. (>_<)
I'm absolutely amazed at how the illustrator conjured cute renderings of a really plain JGSDF uniform. (*_*)

This is just my wishful thinking, but I'd love to see them cover the New Years JGSDF Airborne parachute training or one of the US-Japan bilateral exercises. (^^;

ガン・パラダイス。
先月のアメリカ旅行中、ラスベガスの観光客向けのガンショップで旦那と二人で好きな銃を好きなだけ撃ってきた！(^_^)
残念ながらここ数年で亡くなった某テロリスト・主導者の紙ターゲットは無かったけど、代わりにナチズやゾンビなどに穴をあけまくりました。(^^;
米軍のスコープ無しの基本射撃訓練での射程距離は最大５００メートルですが（陸軍３００M、海兵隊５００M）、今回の室内射撃場ではたったの２５メートルだったので、AR-15のスコープ使ったら毛穴が見えるほど近過ぎた気がする。ピストルもあの近距離だと狙いやすくて楽しい。鮮明に見え過ぎたからヘッドショットばかりやらず、右小指のナックル、左目、ベルトのバックルなど、ピンポイントショットで遊んじゃった。愉快爽快！(^_^)
そういえば私が小銃で狙ってた時、呼吸を整えたり、目を閉じたり、ハンドガードを握ってた左手をリラックスさせるために開いたり閉じたりしたら、安全係員のお兄ちゃんが「もしかして軍人？」って聞いてきた。やっぱり軍隊式射撃の基礎が身にしみてるから、即効バレちゃいましたね。アハハ。(^^;
海兵隊に入った一つの理由は「銃が撃てるから」です。そうじゃかったら警官になってたかも。(^_^)
Gun paradise.
Last month during out trip to the States, my hubby and I went to a tourist-catering gun shop in Las Vegas and blasted away with our favorite guns! (^_^)
Unfortunately, there weren't any paper targets of certain evil terrorists and leaders who died within the past few years, but we punched a lot of holes in Nazi and zombie targets instead. (^^;
The US military basic rifle training without scopes ranges up to 500 meters (Army 300M, USMC 500M), but since we shote in an indoor 25 meter range, so looking through the scope of an AR-15 felt so close that I could almost make out hair pores. The short distance made it easy and fun to aim with a pistol, though. Instead of going for headshots all the time, I mixed it up by doing pinpoint shots of the right pinky, left eye, belt buckle, etc. Awesome fun! (^_^)
When I was aiming with a rifle, the safety guide noticed the way I controlled my breath, closed my eyes, and opened and closed my supporting left hand to relax it, so he asked, "Are you in the military?" I guess the good ol' military shooting skills were ingrained in my body made it obvious. Haha. (^^;
One of the reasons I joined the Marines was "to shoot guns." Or else I would've become a cop. (^_^)

年末、我々がアメリカ旅行をしていた間、バロンを旦那の実家に預けました。
あそこでも我がままぶりを存分に発揮しているようで、ほんとに困ったちゃんです。(T_T)
でも、もうそろそろ我が家に帰ってくるので、それまではこのホットドッグ画像を見て寂しさをしのぎます。(^_^)

At the end of the year, while we were on a trip to the States, my hubby's parents took care of Baron.
I heard that the troubling furball was selfish to the max over there, too. (T_T)
But he'll come back to us soon, so until then, I'll look at this hotdog pic so I won't feel too lonely. (^_^)

憲兵隊の苦労話もたくさん聞けたし、カッコイイ盾ももらいました。板に焼印なんて、いい味出してますね。(^_^)

I had a farewell party with the military police staff that took care of me during my time in Okinawa.
I was able to hear about a lot of their job woes, and even got a military police plaque. The branding on wood is kinda cool. (^_^)

ビーチは良い。
転勤先は沖縄内ではなく、東京周辺なので、トリイビーチのようなキレイな沖縄のビーチがしばらく見れなくなる。ちょっと寂しいな。
まぁ、またいつでも沖縄に遊びに来れるから、なんとかなるさ。(^_^)
Beach is good.
My new job is up in the Tokyo area, not Okinawa, so I won't be able to see the pretty Okinawa beaches like Torii Beach for a while. Which is a little sad.
But I can always come down to Okinawa every so often, so I'll be fine. (^_^)
2011-05-14 スカッとする新展開。
スカッとする新展開。
ついに念願の転勤が叶いました！当初は本命というより滑り止め的な仕事だと思ってたんですが、考えてみれば最終的にコレが決まってよかったかも。(^-^)
今の仕事は…好きだけど、キツイ。今後の健康や私生活を考えると、ここは長居しちゃいけない消耗的な仕事だと痛感しました。
給料、場所、仕事内容、人間関係のうち、二つは良かったけど、もう二つがダメでしたね。一つダメな程度だったらまだ凌げたけど、二つはヤバかった。今度転勤するところは、せいぜい一つというより0.5ダメな程度なんで、ある意味理想に近い職場です。(^^;
沖縄でお世話になった人にはとっても感謝します！でも逆に迷惑だった人間たちから…解放された感じです。スカッとした気分です。ふぃー。(^_^)
これから転勤の準備で忙しくなるぞー。(>_<)
Refreshing turn of events.
I finally got picked up for another job! Initially, I thought this was more of a backup choice, but after thinking it out, it's probably best that I ultimately got this one over the other. (^-^)
My current job here is... something I like to do, but really tough. I felt that this job was exhaustive and not good to stay on long-term due to it's negative effects on health and personal life.
Out of the 4 job factors of pay, location, type of work, and human relations, 2 were good, but the other 2 were bad. Most jobs are endurable if only one factor sucks, but 2 is just too much. I think my new job has only 1 bad, or rather, 0.5 bad factor, so it's pretty close to being an ideal job. (^^;
I really appreciate all the support from the people during my time in Okinawa! But as far as the people who pulled my leg... well, I feel like I'm freed from their troubles. What a refreshing feeling. Phew. (^_^)
It's gonna get busy getting ready for my transfer. (>_<)
