年末年始が目まぐるしく過ぎて、もう４月ではないか。この忙しさは何？(>_<)
ここ数カ月の間、あっち行ったりこっち行ったりのバタバタ状態。それでいつの間にか机にいろんな記念品がたまっちゃった。米軍も自衛隊も部隊のコインやパッチ好きだよね〜。(^_^)
引退するまでにどれぐらいたまるだろうか？記念館を設ける必要…ないよね？ (^^;
まだまだ忙しいけど、頑張ります！(^_^)
Pile o' trinkets.
The end of last year and the start of this year zoomed by, and it's April already. Why am I so busy? (>_<)
For the past few months, I was rushed to various places one after another. And before I knew it, a bunch of trinkets accumulated on my desk. The US and Japanese forces sure love their unit coins and patches, huh? (^_^)
I wonder how many more of these I'll get by the time I retire? Will I have to open a museum to showcase them? (^^;

先月「GIRL FRIENDS」英語版オムニバス第１巻が出ました！実は私が翻訳しました〜。(^_^)
原作の日本語版と違うところは、全５巻を１巻ずつ出版するのではなく、連載を半分に分けて上下巻にまとめたことです。けっこうぶっとい。どうでもいいかもしれませんが、画像は日本語版の１〜３巻と英語版１巻を比較してみました。(^^;
森永みるく先生のかわいい絵とストーリー、好きです。だから目で絵を楽しみながらサクサクと翻訳できました。(^_^)
ちょっと苦労したところはふきだしの中に描かれた大量の汗マーク。訳文でいちいち明記しないといけなかったので、翻訳終わった頃には両腕がバキバキでサロンパス貼りまくり。それとメイクとファッション用語のリサーチ…体育会系＆女子力ゼロの私、そーゆー知識が全く無いっス。(^^;
なんと、発売早々ニューヨークタイムズ週間マンガ部門でのトップ１０入りしました！

Last month, “Girl Friends: the Complete Collection 1” was on sale! I translated this series. (^_^)
Unlike the original Japanese manga, which published the 5-volume series one issue at a time, the US version split the series into two omnibus volumes. Not that anyone cares, but I compared the original volumes with the omnibus edition. (^^;
I like Morinaga Milk sensei’s cute art and story. Which is why I enjoyed the drawings and breezed through the translation. (^_^)
But I struggled through the endless amount of sweat marks. I have to type out each mark, so when I finished the translation, my arm muscles were tight and covered with Salonpas relief tapes. And researching all the makeup and fashion terms... as a jock with zero girl power, I was totally clueless. (^^;
Soon after this book hit the shelves, it made top 10 on the New York Times best seller’s list!

私の部隊の海兵隊ブートキャンプ卒業式のビデオを購入できるのを最近知りましたので、さっそく取り寄せました。(^_^)
記憶の中では毎日野外で卒業式を練習させられたので、卒業式も外だと思いきや、ビデオを観てみたら実は本番は雨天のせいで急遽室内でやっていたことに気づく。人間の記憶ってあいまいだね。(^^;
運よく私は最前列に座っていましたが、映像が古い＆暗いせいで、顔と制服がほぼ真黒。唯一光っていたのは射撃バッジ（ピザボックス）でした。当時はショートボブで、ちょこっとアップになりましたが、顔のほとんどがブサイクめがねと短い髪に隠れてたよ。(-_-;
しかし何年経っても教官の名前は忘れないですね。つい教官らの名前を条件反射で言っていたら、旦那が「よく覚えてるよな。まぁオレも新隊員教育の班長の名前まだ覚えてるけど」と。どの軍隊の新隊員教育でも、共通点ありますね。(^_^)
私の終始カチコチでクソ真面目な姿勢は今観ると笑えてしまいます。ブートキャンプにいた頃は毎日苦しかったけど、今となってはおかしくて楽しい経験で、一生に一度の思い出です。てことは二度目は勘弁です！(>_<)
Boot camp graduation video arrived.
I recently found out I could purchase my unit's boot camp graduation ceremony video, so I ordered one immediately. (^_^)
Though I recall practicing the graduation ceremony outside almost every day, I swear my unit graduated outside, but upon watching the video, I realized my mistake -- we did it indoors. Human memory is so vague at times. (^^;
Luckily, I was sitting in the front row, but because the video was old and it was really dark inside, my face and uniform were really black. The only thing shining was my pizza box (rifle marksmanship badge). I had a short bob, and the camera zoomed in a little, but my face was mostly covered up by my fugly glasses and hair. (-_-;
One thing you never forget are the names of your Drill Instructors. When I automatically blurted out my DIs' names, my hubby said, "You still remember their names? Well actually, I still remember my boot camp instructor's name, too." I guess a lot of military forces have a few things in common. (^_^)
I totally laughed at my serious, stiff posture back then. Every day at boot camp was hell, but looking back, it really was a weirdly fun experience... a once-in-a-lifetime ride. Which means I won't go there ever again! (>_<)

先日、職場のカベに不思議な写真に遭遇した。それは昔、陸軍に勤めていた頃の自分が写っていた。(*_*)
いま陸軍に勤めてないのに、なぜこんな写真があるんだろう？と思い、よく見たら４軍それぞれのエリアがあったみたい。陸軍のコーナーに私の写真がありました。
その話を広報担当に話したところ「もらっていいよ」と渡された。嬉しいような、恥ずかしいような… (^^;
コレ、７年前の演習風景ですね（私真ん中にいます）。懐かしいな。当時、私は少し髪伸ばそうとしてみたけど…うわー、似合わねぇ。

Old Army pic from the past.
The other day, I ran across a strange photo on the wall at my workplace. It was a photo of me when I was working for the Army a while back. (*_*)
I'm not working for the Army right now, so why is my picture here? But I noticed there were a set of photos for each of the four services. My pic happened to be part of the group of Army photos.
When I told our public affairs guy, he said, "You can have it," and gave it to me. I was kinda glad but embarrassed... (^^;
This was taken about seven years ago (I'm in the middle). It's been a while. I was trying to grow my hair out a little but... yuck, not good.
Yay for short hair? (^^;

2012-09-13 楽しい誕生日。
楽しい誕生日。
普段、自分の誕生日や記念日とかにあまり関心持たない私ですが、今日の誕生日は結構楽しかった。(^_^)
朝は演習場で大きな爆発を見れたし、F2戦闘機も上空飛んだし、午後はたくさんの重機が半日で爆破現場を修復したし、夕方は打ち上げに参加して美味しいバースデーケーキもらったし、ホテルの中の温泉でゆっくりできたし…出張じゃなかくて遊びに来た感じ？仕事ってこんなに楽しかったっけ？(^^;
ぶっちゃけ、本日は海兵隊員の心をくすぐる愉快な一日でした。(^_^)
Fun Birthday.
I usually don't care much for my own birthday or celebrations, but this year's birthday was pretty fun. (^_^)
In the morning, I went to the training area, saw a huge explosion, and saw some F-2 fighter jets fly over, then in the afternoon, watched a bunch of heavy equipment patch up the blast area in half a day, and in the evening, participated in the post-event party, got a delicious birthday cake, and dipped in the onsen inside the hotel upon return. This seemed like more of a leisure trip than a business trip. Is work supposed to be this fun? (^^;
All in all, this was a fun-filled day that tickled and gave this little Marine a warm and fuzzy. (^_^)

昨日、「まりんこゆみ」の新連載を開始しました！ずーっとやりたかった漫画がついにスタート！(>_<)
これまでの映画やコミックスには主に男性海兵隊員が描かれているので、私は女性海兵隊員を主人公にした作品が作りたかったんです。
でも自分の画力不足と絵を描く遅さのせいでなかなか進まなかったところに、予想もしなかった助っ人が現れたんです！友人である野上武志先生が援護してくれるということで、プロジェクトがやっと実現しました。(^_^)

"Marine Corps Yumi" new manga series start!
Yesterday, new manga series "Marine Corps Yumi" began! It's the manga title I've been wanting to make! (>_<)
Most of movies and comics tend to depict male Marines, so I really wanted to do a story about a female Marine protagonist.
But my drawing isn't that good and my drawing pace is glacial, so this endeavor never really took off until an unexpected help appeared out of nowhere! My friend, Nogami Takeshi-sensei, offered to help, so this project finally became a reality. (^_^)

毎年恒例のキャラホビのまりたんイベント。でも今回はいろんな意味でパワーアップされた楽しさでした！(^_^)
在日米陸軍の音楽隊は、軍隊といえどもやはりプロの演奏、迫力あり面白さありのエンターテイメントだった！もちろんいつものまりたん、あーみーさんとじえいたんも参加して華やかな雰囲気になりました！
あと、女王様役の金月真美さんが参加しました！しかも女性上級下士官用のイブニングドレスを着てた。カッコよかった！ついでにドレスブルーズ着た護衛隊も３人付いたり、女王様入場の際、陸軍音楽隊が栄誉礼演奏したり、豪華過ぎる感じでした。(>_<)

Much too fun Chara Hobby 2012.
Every year we have the usual Maritan event at Chara Hobby. But this time, it was loaded with some extra powerful fun! (^_^)
The US Army Japan band, were both military and music professionals, providing great entertainment with powerful and fun performances! Of course, Maritan, Army-san and Jieitan participated as usual to create an elegant atmosphere!
Also Kingetsu Mami-san, the Queen, appeared! And she wore the female SNCO evening dress. Too cool! On top of that, the Queen was escorted by three USMC guards in dress blues, and the Army band played honors when she entered, making it a very glamorous event.(>_<)

In addition to selling the usual USMC goods, we also had a face-painting booth. It was unexpectedly a very popular to a lot of kids and military maniacs. (^^;
