The official Tolkien calendar, this year containing 16 magnificent landscape paintings by renowned artist Ted Nasmith, selected from `The Silmarillion’ by J.R.R. Tolkien.

J R R Tolkien’s SILMARILLION is the core work of the Middle-earth canon. It is in this complex masterpiece that the history and background for THE HOBBIT and, particularly, THE LORD OF THE RINGS is documented.

It contains fabulous tales of heroes and monsters, and the history of the Elves and of the Silmarils – the magical jewels produced by one of the greatest of the Elves, which were stolen by Morgoth, the first Dark Lord; it tells of the creation of Middle-earth, and the coming of Men into the world; it chronicles the early battles between good and evil, forces of light and dark, which foreshadow the great conflict with Sauron in THE LORD OF THE RINGS. It also includes a version of the tale of the Children of Húrin, and Túrin’s titanic confrontation with the mighty dragon, Glaurung, the agent of Morgoth.

These tales of Middle-earth were published posthumously in 1977, and when the book was recently reset, acclaimed Tolkien artist Ted Nasmith was commissioned to produce a total of almost 50 breathtaking paintings to accompany these spectacular stories.

It is from these that the new Tolkien Calendar has been compliled, and it promises to be one of the most beautiful collections ever published..

シンプルでなんとも可愛い絵柄なのに、指輪物語の世界がダイレクトに伝わって来るのが不思議。
削ぎ落とされた絵なのに、これはあのシーン！と、すぐに解るのが楽しい。
絵を見ていると、また無性に原作が読みたくなるようなカレンダー。

Ich habe diesen mittlerweile 5 Jahre alten Kalender aus zweiter Hand gekauft und habe nichts zu bereuen. Der Kalender ist so gut wie neu. Die Zeichnungen Ted Nasmiths sind, wie zu erwarten war, wunderschön. Ich werde wahrscheinlich einige Bilder einrahmen und aufhängen.

Ich möchte mein Lob an DHL und MEDIMOPS aussprechen, die das Produkt in einem einwandfreien Zustand geliefert haben. Der Kalender war in einer Luftpolzterfolie und einem festen Kartonumschlag verpackt. Ich finde es gut, wenn Verkäufer und Lieferanten Wert auf das sichere Versenden einer Ware legen.

4 Sterne für das Produkt + 1 für die sehr guten Lieferung!

In 2009 Tolkien lovers will enjoy this calendar depicting scenes from The Silmarillion. The illustrator is Ted Nasmith, who originally created the pictures included here for the illustrated edition of The Silmarillion published a few years ago. Even though these pictures are not, strictly speaking, new, they are nevertheless very beautiful and will add much to any room in which they are displayed. Nasmith is especially adept at depicting moonlight and seascapes, and there are several such scenes included here, including my favorite, February's "By Moonlight in Nelodoreth Forest." US and Canadian holidays and Christian, Jewish, and Muslim holy days are marked, along with moon phases. Also noted are JRR Tolkien's birth and death dates and the original publication dates for his major works, including 2007's The Children of Hurin.

Fan de Tolkien depuis plus de 20 ans, j'ai découvert ces calendriers il y a quelques années, et c'est toujours avec plaisir que je découvre celui de l'année en cours.
Pour 2010, c'est Ted Nasmith qui nous emporte dans l'univers de Tolkien au travers de ses illustrations colorées de rêves. Il est sans doute l'illustrateur des mondes de Tolkien que je préfére, je suis donc ravie !

The artwork is simple and unique. While it is not the standard art that accompanies many lord of the rings depictions, it is simple and beautiful. Not too flashy but always interesting. I hope more calendars by Blok are put out in the future.
