“A velvety mix of vivid, sophisticated prose, Raymond Carver’s unerring eye for nuance, and John Irving’s irreverent, unflinching humor….An intimate look inside the maelstrom of professional cycling.”
—Boston Globe
Daniel Coyne’s New York Times bestseller Lance Armstrong’s War takes a fascinating, in-depth look at a staggeringly talented yet flawed sports hero as he faced his greatest test: a record sixth straight Tour de France victory. Now with a new epilogue covering Armstrong's quest to win an 8th Tour de France, this “intimate, insightful, unflinching look at the greatest athlete of our time” (Jon Krakauer) explores the remarkable drive and accomplishments of a controversial champion—a must read for fans of John Feinstein and David Halberstam, as well as readers of Lance Armstrong’s own It’s Not About the Bike and Every Second Counts.

This book also helped me (finally) see what a truly great rider that Lance Armstrong was. The fact that he was able to stay up and finish so many stages under so many conditions and pressure is an accomplishment unrelated to performance enhancing drugs. He was a great champion!
I was really surprised that the author gave a personal reflection about his involvement in the 2004 Tour de France circus of Armstrong. With irony and facts he leaves the doping decision open to the reader. I also appreciated, that the author tells about LA contemporary greatest rivals and most important teammates. Even 20 years later a very entertaining book.
Some of the very best information is contained in *explanatory notes, that are not listed in the table of contents in the kindle version and I only stumbled across it when tapping past the "copyright" and "about the publisher" at the very end of the book, so it would be easily missed.
