The Human Story Behind the Divine Book
In this New York Times bestseller, leading Bible expert Bart Ehrman skillfully demonstrates that the New Testament is riddled with contradictory views about who Jesus was and the significance of his life. Ehrman reveals that many of the books were written in the names of the apostles by Christians living decades later, and that central Christian doctrines were the inventions of still later theologians. Although this has been the standard and widespread view of scholars for two centuries, most people have never learned of it.
Jesus, Interrupted is a clear and compelling account of the central challenges we have when attempting to reconstruct the life and meaning of Jesus.

レビュー
“For both scholars and the masses who read about religion, Bart D. Ehrman needs no introduction . . . He adds the personal to the scholarly for some of his works, detailing how he went from a Moody Bible Institute-educated fundamentalist evangelical to an agnostic . -- Durham Herald-Sun
“There’s something delicious (for nonbelievers, anyway) about the implacable, dispassionate way that Ehrman reveals how the supposedly “divine truth” of Christianity was historically constructed.” -- Salon.com

So why only one star for this book? It is because I believe he neglects one grave point in studying about the Historical Jesus.
Please look at the covers of ‘The Lost Gospel of Judas Iscariot’, ‘Peter, Paul and Mary Magdalene’, and ‘The Triumph of Christianity’ in addition to this book, for example. You will never fail to notice that the complexions are all white without any exceptions (pay special attention to Monroe-like beautiful Mary). True, professor Ehrman never said Jesus was white but as a historian and apparently liberal scholar, he is justly supposed to keep in mind the historical fact that people in Palestine, including Jesus of Nazareth of course, have always had colors on their skin.
Well, I sincerely hope he will write a book about this issue; How colored was Jesus, black, brown, red or yellow?

I find most of this book convincing, as is usually the case when I read anything by the author. Coming from a strong evangelical tradition which I am now questioning, I feared that reading this authors books might might totally undermine my faith in scripture. It has made me think more deeply when I read the Bible but I am still able to draw inspiration from it. Indeed, in some instances this book has drawn me closer to Jesus the man, who has always been my role model. It is helpful to have a better understanding of how the many manuscripts have informed his work.
Recommended reading for anyone interested in the history of Christianity .
