Definitive Guide to the Xen Hypervisor, The (Prentice Hall Open Source Software Development) ハードカバー – 2007/11/9
The Xen hypervisor has become an incredibly strategic resource for the industry, as the focal point of innovation in cross-platform virtualization technology. Davids book will play a key role in helping the Xen community and ecosystem to grow.
Simon Crosby, CTO, XenSource
An Under-the-Hood Guide to the Power of Xen Hypervisor Internals
The Definitive Guide to the Xen Hypervisor is a comprehensive handbook on the inner workings of XenSources powerful open source paravirtualization solution. From architecture to kernel internals, author David Chisnall exposes key code components and shows you how the technology works, providing the essential information you need to fully harness and exploit the Xen hypervisor to develop cost-effective, highperformance Linux and Windows virtual environments.
Granted exclusive access to the XenSource team, Chisnall lays down a solid framework with overviews of virtualization and the design philosophy behind the Xen hypervisor. Next, Chisnall takes you on an in-depth exploration of the hypervisors architecture, interfaces, device support, management tools, and internalsincluding key information for developers who want to optimize applications for virtual environments. He reveals the power and pitfalls of Xen in real-world examples and includes hands-on exercises, so you gain valuable experience as you learn.
This insightful resource gives you a detailed picture of how all the pieces of the Xen hypervisor fit and work together, setting you on the path to building and implementing a streamlined, cost-efficient virtual enterprise.
Coverage includes
Understanding the Xen virtual architecture
Using shared info pages, grant tables, and the memory management subsystem
Interpreting Xens abstract device interfaces

So only one minus that I found in this book is to much talk about 32 bit systems and to less about 64 bits, but it is because of edge of this book.
But definetly it is great knowledge source for developers.
This book is outdated. Published in 2008 makes it really old in the ever changing world of virtualization.
If you are simply going to be a Citrix Administrator and only want to manage an environment, I would say you could avoid this book. If you are the type of person who wants to know what's going on in the background, you can probably get an idea from this book.
If you want to play around with a Xen environment and write code? This book can help a little. Keep in mind this book mainly discusses 32 bit systems. The main topic centers on writing a paravirtualized kernel. I would stress a programming background as it will make it easier to follow the authors presentation. Having said that? Access to the source and google can probably do the job as well.
Will I keep this book?....For now sure. I am not sure who many times I will be referring to it however.
