Another, later book by England's funniest writer, P.G. Wodehouse
Wodehouse was born in England, settled and worked in the U.S., and lived for a time in France. In this later novel, his main characters live in the U.S. and travel to France, where most the action occurs. This is an incredibly funny story about 3 sisters who live on Long Island, operating a chicken farm, who receive a windfall and decide to spend it all on a trip to France to (hopefully) find a rich husband. Wodehouse is at his best and the action is fast, crazy, and thoroughly enjoyable. The edition that I purchased is the Everyman Press edition. The title appeared in the U.S. under the Overlook imprint--both editions are virtually the same although it seems to be easier to find the Everyman edition. The book is part of a complete works sets marketed by the two publishers. In my opinion, the quality of this hardcover edition (e.g., paper, typeface) and appearance of the dust cover make this the best edition currently available. Highly recommended.

Trials and tribulations are finally sorted

A new (to me) setoff characters, the plot takes his usual surprising twists, if only real life was like this! I found I could sit back and enjoy his use of English which is, as always a joy. There is gently mocking of status, both the impoverished French aristocrat and foolish over wealthy Americans.

Not his best but we still hear his voice

I have to confess to having lost the plot now and again but who reads PG Wodehouse for the plot ?
Having dealt decisively but harmlessly with a baddie, "Mr Clutterbuck gave a satisfied nod, the sort of nod Michelangelo might have given on completing a masterpiece. " We read the novels for the turn of phrase and the unexpected reference. Then there is champagne. And a happy ending of course. Old Nick's tranformation when he finds his metier is a delight.
