Some people are mentioning that this book talks about German people and how cluel they were on WW2.
They have not understood what the book is all about. This book is not about Germans, French, Italians, British or any other type of passport. It is about Ordinary Men, ordinary people.

Ordinary Men has been admired all over the world and is now published in the UK for the first time. It takes as its basis the detailed records of one squad from the Nazis' extermination groups and explores in detail its composition, its actions, andthe methods by which it was trained to perform acts of genocide on an industrial scale. He introduces us to cheerful, friendly, ordinary men who killed without hesitation or apparent remorse for years on end, in docile obedience to an authority theyhappily accepted as legitimate. It is a valuable corrective to the idea of German uniqueness and offers a much more chilling picture of human beings as avidly suggestible and desperate for an organising purpose in their lives, however disgusting.

vividly describes brutarity, cruelty, barbarian character of the NAZIs, ldeeply rooted from their racist nature which stands sharp contrast to their high quality industrial goods.

Everyone has become afraid of our ruling class today. Even worse, they fear what their neighbour is capable of doing to them. This book is a screeching fire alarm for our democracy today. The world view of 1940 is not at all dissimilar from the present mainstream media narrative. The agenda of Marxism is unfolding as planned. Be very afraid that you and your children are being conditioned to re-enact the horrors related here.
Although I wholeheartedly recommend this study of the people in the Third Reich I must point out that this study of human nature completely misses the one great hope for any civilization, namely, the counter balance of the church.
There is not one reference to consideration of the moral religious values internalized in anyone. That the most enthusiastic Nazis were totally immoral is a given. But what influence did Christian faith have on the refusers? The bleak picture of the “Ordinary Men” studied here predicts our present descent into a racist Fourth Reich. But this time the “privileged white male” is the new Jew. I believe that further study that shows the influence of the church can go a long way to revive hope.
Read this book for a window on what the “Ordinary Men” of today might become. But also know that a return to honour, decency, family, and faith is the antidote to racist poison. Judeo – Christian values created our democratic civilization, they can sustain it if we choose to.

Interesting read

'Ordinary Men' by Christopher R. Browning is a thought-provoking and harrowing account of the atrocities committed by Reserve Police Battalion 11 during the Holocaust in Poland. Through meticulous research and detailed analysis, Browning sheds light on the role of ordinary men in perpetrating one of the most horrific events in human history.
One of the most striking aspects of this book is how Browning challenges the notion that the perpetrators of the Holocaust were all fanatical Nazis or sociopaths. Instead, he presents a group of men who were ordinary, middle-aged, working-class individuals with no prior history of violence or anti-Semitism. This challenges the idea that only a certain type of person is capable of committing such heinous acts, and forces the reader to confront the uncomfortable truth that anyone has the potential to participate in genocide. Really good book but its not a light read

Historic and horrific!

This book was a difficult one to mark. The issue is that it is very much a product of academia. Yet the subject matter is quite horrific.
In the 60s and 70s, an investigation was begun into the men of Reserve Police Battalion 101 who served in Poland during WWII. What was uncovered was quite horrific, the murder of thousands of Jews for the sole purpose of ethnic cleansing.
Welcome to Germany's final solution.
The book chronicles the change in these men from feeling what was happening was wrong and refusing to. In the end, 80% of them were either numb or revelling in the experience of shooting the Polish Jews or merely herding them to Treblinka.
We, as humans, say to ourselves that we will always take the more noble path, and yet, this book proves that we will not. Most of us would accept whatever comes our way, not considering the consequences in any way. We would merely numb it and squeeze the trigger!
Interestingly and even more damning, it is not just the Police but the population of Poland itself that seems complicit in these crimes. Often pointing the finger, was that for the reward or the fear of the consequences of not?
After reading this, the most horrific thing to me was a simple story added in. The Germans commonly played psychological games with the victims, and here is an example.
A Polish woman was shielding a group of Jews and was sold out. The Jews were caught but she fled. Finally, ending up at her father's house in a nearby village. The Police gave her father a choice: hand her over, or they would kill him.
He handed her over, the report did not say what happened to him.
After reading this, I kept pondering whether I could sell out my children versus my own death. I very much hoped I never face such a situation and that if it happened, I would offer myself. Or did she persuade him to sacrifice her as she would be hunted no matter what?
These were terrible times and horrific events throughout the world. I hope we are now better people.

Important book

A chilling account of how the ordinary policemen of Police Battalion 101 became obedient killers in the Nazi drive to exterminate all European Jews. The author at first recounts the mass-shootings and deportations to Treblinka before going on to investigate the psycholgy of the policemen and how they came to be for the most part willing participants in the massacres that took place in Poland during WWII.

Un libro necesario
