Robert Carroll has taught Semitic languages and the Hebrew/English Bible for 30 years at Glasgow University, where he is Professor of Hebrew Bible and Semitic Studies.
Stephen Prickett has held the Chair of English at the Australian National University in Canberra, and has taught at Sussex and Minnesota Universities and Smith College, Massachusetts. He is currently Regius Professor of English Literature at Glasgow University.

以前、Oxford版のハードカバーの聖書を持っていましたが、引っ越しで手放してしまいました。聖書には様々なバーションがありますが、KJVが一番いいのではないかと思っています。海外で勉強したり仕事をしたりすると、ある程度の聖書の知識がないと困る場面もあります。今回は娘のために購入しました。

英語訳聖書(欽定訳）です。さきに聖書コンコルダンスを買ったら、欽定訳聖書に準拠していたので、これを買いました。旧新約聖書にアポクリファもついていたので、便利かなと思ったからです。どうも一字一句対応していそうなので満足しています。

私は英語がほとんどできません。中学校レベルのまま止まっています。
そんな私に、いつかは英語ができるようになりたいと思わせるための目標として本書を購入しました。
関心のある聖書から英語の世界へ入っていけたらと思います。ちなみに日本語の聖書は続編つきで２回通読しました。今、３回目に挑戦しているところです。結構読んでます。
日本語訳の聖書と英語訳の聖書では、こんなにも印象が変わってしまうんですね。驚きました。
アポクリファという続編つきで、本の紙も割合しっかりしていて、このお値段は買いだと思います。

I'm reading the Bible as a piece of literature and history, not in a religious manner. I have read literature for many years and one of my favorite series of books is certainly the Oxford world's classics. So when I saw that they had compiled one edition of the Bible I said it was time to go for it. And indeed, it's beautiful and very useful. The language and the notes, and I love it that the commentary is not written as religious and worshiping of God, but rather it's oriented towards the Bible as an important book for our current civilization, as a crucial influencer in human history and the way in which it's shaped literature throughout the centurys. I'll read it from cover to cover. Reading the Bible is actually very enjoyable and peaceful.
