年取るって賢くなることだし、いろんなことに寛容になるし、素晴らしい！という考えはうそっぱちよっ！とはっきり正直に言ってくれるのがスカッとします。そうです。やっぱり女はばばあになっても、見た目を気にするし、あー、私って普通じゃん、と本当に共感できます。ちなみに題は、要するに、首のシワが気になっちゃって・・・という意味です。

I read the book in Japanese first. It was well translated but I wanted to read it in English. I have a few more years before I get to experience what she went through, but it was really interesting.

エイジングについての随想をまとめたものかと思いきや、それだけにとどまらないエピソードが色々と語られています。
どちらかというと、筆者のいろいろ回顧録という雰囲気でした。

バッグの中身についてのズボラ話や、JFKとのこぼれ話(！)など、エイジングとは離れた話題も面白いです。

エイジングに関する筆者の話はどれも自虐的なユーモアに満ちていて、
「老眼で薬瓶の注意書きが読めないせいで、体を壊すかも」
「ビキニをもっと着なかったことが悔やまれる。これを読んだ人はすぐさまビキニを着て」
みたいな、笑える愚痴が楽しい。

そして最終エピソードでは、老いるということ、死ぬということについて、悲しくも明るく筆者の思いがつづられます。
ここまでカラッと読めていたのに、すっと死の世界に引きずり込まれ、時には涙しながら読みました。

「年をとるのは素敵なことよ」という世間の風潮に対し、「いや、ホント年をとるのってろくでもないわ」と愚痴りながらも、明るく生きていく姿勢が楽しい本でした。

筆者は60代ですが、読者はどの年代の方でも楽しく読めると思います。

まずはタイトルにある通り、首のしわがどうしようもなく気になる！
首のしわを話題にしようものなら、周囲の反応がどうなるか・・・あぁ、私たちと同じだな、と何故か安心したりして。
年をとるのはモチロン、いいことばかりではない、色々な経験もある。でも、著者の視点のおかげか・・・笑える、のがいいところ。
ニューヨークのマンション事情（バブルの時について）まで分かって、面白かったです。
年をとることへの思いは複雑ですね。
首のしわが気になったら、読んでみて下さい。周囲の反応を見て、「うん、そうだな」と納得できるはず。
