Margaret Mitchell
(著)
Tomorrow is another day...Set against the dramatic backdrop of the American Civil War, Margaret Mitchell's magnificent historical epic is an unforgettable tale of love and loss, of a nation mortally divided and a people forever changed. Above all, it is the story of beautiful, ruthless Scarlett O'Hara and the dashing soldier of fortune, Rhett Butler.

I have read this book in many languages. However, the original language is still the Best! Story of love, history, and psychology of people without social media.

I really think it a shame that I hadn't read this masterpiece until now.
The movie was amazing but leaves out a lot of details that are in the book.
Highly recommended to everyone!

小説自体は原文で読む方がずっといいかと思う。映画とどちらがいいか評価するのは難しいです。

This book has it all; factual history, deep character analysis and a fair and accurate depiction of life in 1860’s Georgia. Enhanced my understanding of the political machinations in this country during and just after the US civil war. Provided insight on why Georgia politics was how it was through much of the 20th century. Well written work.

Great historical fiction

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Always wondered what it would be like in comparison with the movie. They did a pretty good job with the movie, but as always, the book was much more in depth. Great historical references from the Southerner’s viewpoint. Shows that history is more complicated than we’re led to believe from our modern viewpoint. The author did a great job with character descriptions, as well as generally. Scarlett was certainly a piece of work and Rhett could see through her with no problem and let her know. Overall, this book was well worth the time.

Worth the read. Worth the money.

It is easy to see why this novel has been so popular so long. It is beautifully written. Yes, there is racist language in it. Most of it is relevant to the story and the period, accurately reflecting the attitudes of the antibellum South. The edition is quite nice, and for the money, the hard-cover is a very good purchase.

This is my all time favourite fictional book.
I first read it as a child and it made me read history books about this era.
I prefer it to the movie which is my all time favourite film so you might wonder why.
Firstly the characters in the book are much more compelling and imaginatively constructed by Margaret Mitchell and the racial stereotypes in the book are much less evident.
The relationship between the black and white characters and their relationship with the war and the love affair between Scarlett and Rhett set my imagination on fire.
Scarlett both a hero and villain depending on the company she kept.
Her relationship with Ashley in the book is much easier to understand, in the movie I was confused who could have resisted Rhett but less clear on what she could have seen in her “ true love” Ashley. In the book however you can clearly understand the power of unrequited love in the prose and why Rhett was so obsessed by Scarlett.
The war or as as Scarlett said “ war, war, war” it’s compelling reading and damage done by the war to her family, the South and reconstruction of the US is better understood in prose.
A civilisation gone with the wind but never from my reading list.
