Michael Light is an artist and photographer based in San Francisco. His work is in the collections of The Center for Creative Photography and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His photo-novel, Ranch, was published in 1994.

Andrew Chaikin, who contributed an essay to this volume, is the author of the definitive study of the Apollo missions, A Man on the Moon (1994), which was the basis of the award-winning television series From the Earth to the Moon.

フィルム写真集でNASAのアポロが月に行った時の写真です。
人類が初めて月面を１歩ずつ歩行した映像はテレビなどで時たまに見られますが、この写真が持つ壮大さと反面にある人間の小さな力の対比がよく写真に出ています。小さな力の結束で大きな仕事をしていると感じてしまいました。それより何より地球が何段階にも言えない蒼い色をしているのです。これはすごく感動します。
私は宇宙に行くする気持ちは恐れてありませんが、
この写真集を見ていると案外この地球人のルーツ探しの旅にすでに参加してしまっている部分があるんですね。夢を持たせてくれる本です。
おススメです。

月面がアートであることを教えてくれるとても美しい写真集です。そして、人間が宇宙に旅立つことのはかなさ、尊さ、壮大さを感じることができます。白黒の世界ですが、本当にかっこよく、誰にお勧めしても「かっこいい」「きれい」と評判の一冊です。

ボサノバを聞きながら写真を見ていると月に行った気分になります。文字も書いてないので空想が広がります。白黒の写真が多いですがそれも良いですね。大切にしたい本です。

理屈でわかっていても、空がまっくらなのに地表が明るいというのは不思議に感じます。
モノクロの写真とカラーの写真がありますが、一瞬どちらなのかわからないほど色のない、まるで夢の中のような世界です。
逆に地球は本当に色鮮やかで美しく、使い古された表現ですが、宇宙に浮かぶ青い宝石というのは本当だなと思いました。
月の世界は神秘的で感動しますが、自分達の住んでいる星の神秘性がそれを上回ってひしひしと伝わります。

This book is a collection of the most stunning images of the moon I have ever seen. There are several 'pull out' pages - like 'centerfolds' - that provide stunning panoramas. The quality of the paper and the images are just incredible "High Def" "8K" (forget 4K) large format pages.

If you're a moon lover, this book is for you. It might not have any explanation about the photos or any in detail writings about the particular part of the moon or item you're looking at but that doesn't matter. You get lost in the brilliance of the photo. These are things you simply do not see every day - and the pictures that we're all familiar with are shown in a beautiful way, being presented without description and with great picture quality and - as I bought the larger version of the book - in a big enough size to hold your gaze for quite some time.

I absolutely love this book and sometimes simply sit for an hour or so flicking through and wondering what it would be like to step foot on that big ball of cheese in the sky. That is what it's made of, right?

Definitely recommend this to anyone who gets inspired by anything moon related.
