An excellent children's book! Also as a fan of John Irving's book "A Widow for One Year," it was a pleasure to have a physical copy of a fictional character's writing. A hilarious concept, to have published a book written within another book, by a fictional character, who's writing is described as being "frightening." Instead this is a book about being brave in the face of uncertainty, and to that end it is a brilliant story, told with endearing and clever illustrations. Of course nothing written by John Irving, or any one of his characters would be anything less than brilliant. Every adult should read John Irving's books, and every child should have "A Sound Like Someone Trying Not to Make a Sound" read to them. To any John Irving fan who has read not "A Widow for One Year," I challenge you to read that and then ignore this opportunity to see Theodore Cole's beloved children's book made real. A treasure.

I thought this was an old book, but when I read inside, I realized it was a companion book written. Regardless, it's great. As an adult, I can say that I miss the kids books from when I was a tike---scary at times, real at others, happy inevitably. This is kind of a weird, dark book. No real ending, but if you kind of love John Irving, you might appreciate this book.
