I read this as required reading for an anthropology course, sometimes required reading can actually connect with you even if it is required. A good read even if you don't need a historical perspective.

I long ago learned Ishi's method of chipping arrowheads. This wonderful book completes my library on the last of the Yahi Indians, and it's a really good read!

After reading an article about his anthropological research working in packaging at Amazon, I liked the author's style. As an anthropologist myself, it delighted me to read more by this author. This book is both fascinating and informative! Using Ishi films, doing research at the Smithsonian Institution years ago, and reading earlier studies of Ishi, it explains very well some of the reasons why the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and its amendments were developed and passed. I recommend this for students and others with interest in some of the ways the discipline of Anthropology and our perspectives on human relations have developed as all of us have rethought what we thought was "right" in the past. Every day--every year--we rethink and review our beliefs and our behaviors--hopefully, for the better! Anthropological Archaeology Professor Emeritus
