　著者のMichael Ashby教授は、2007年5月に、日本に講演に来たときに私も聴講しました。
講演は、日本人の苦手な発音のデモをしながら、とても分かりやすいものでした。
講演の時にこの本の存在を知り購入しました。音声学の学生の必須の教科書
だと思います。
　著者はサマー・コース（イギリス）では、日本人を含む、多くの外国人に、音声学と、
英語の発音指導をしています。外国人に教えている経験が豊富なので、具体的で分かり
やすい本です。

絵が豊富で、発音の波形も豊富なので、音声学の入門書として、オススメします。

単語の発音は基本的にBritish Englishです。英米の発音の基本的な違いを少し知って
いれば、問題ありません。
英語の音節 Syllableの解明もしていますが、これも英米の両方のつづりと発音に
使えます。
