As an entrepreneur myself, this book is full of insights.

I wanted to give it a 4.5. just before this book I read Shoe Dog from Nike founder and what I missed in this book is Jeff Bezos own voice.

Still totally recommend!!!

勿論、ａｍａｚｏｎで購入して、読んだ。　日本進出前に、アメリカのａｍａｚｏｎに発注して洋書を取り寄せていたころからのファンなので、この本を見つけた時は迷わず購入した。　

先ずは、ネットの世界での起業と成長が如何に過酷か良く理解できる。　信長の性格とイメージが重なり離れない。　競争のやり方、狙いを付けた買収対象（獲物）の取り込み方など、そこまで？と思わざるを得ない事例も次々出てくる。　

此処までやるから、ここまでに成れたのかと、最後は感心して読了。　何年かをａｍａｚｏｎで燃焼し、そして他の企業に移る幹部等の例も数多く紹介されている。　

ネットビジネスのこの厳しさを、世界で戦うには、認識し覚悟しなければならない。　日本で起業をしようと考えている人間は、一読の価値あるだろう。

労働環境としては賛否両論あるかと思いますが、たえまなく規模と業態を拡大していく企業をささえるビジョンと企業統治の手法については、世界最高のレベルだと納得できました。
その手本としてトヨタのleanな生産管理やWalmart, COSTCOの規模によるディスカウント経営ノウハウがあり、トップのJeff Bezosから各部門がフラットかつ直接にビジョンがいきわたる様は痛快でさえあります。
アマゾンは業態を拡大していく上で、常にdisruptiveなイノベーターとして参入していき、既存の経営の常識にとらわれずにコスト削減、規模拡大を目指します。その姿勢は徹底しています。しかし、disruptiveであり続けるということは、既存企業と同じような努力・賃金では実現が困難であることも事実です。そして、昨日までのアマゾンと同じレベルで居続けることもできません。常に自分を追い込んでいく、より優秀な人材をとりこんで、生え抜きを切り捨てていく、そういう面も必然的に出てきます。
それを批判することはたやすいですが、それ以外に今後の企業が成功していく道を見出すのはJeff Bezos以上の才能が必要なのは明らかです。彼に勝てますか？まず本書を読んでみてください。

アマゾンの創業者のキャラクターの濃さは幾たびにも聞いていましたが、この本を読んでさらに強烈な個性の持ち主であることがわかりました。大変スリリングな内容で、途中の度重なる挫折や人との折衝など、読んでいても本を閉じてしまいたくなるほどの我の強さ、などありましたが、数日であっという間に読んでしまいました。一緒には絶対に働きたくないですが（笑）、しかし結果を出していますし、今や先進国の人々の生活に欠かせないインフラを作ったのも事実です。そのすごさが垣間見れる、そんな本です。ご本人著書ではないですが、相当にインタビューや調査をされたようですので、内容はかなり現実味があります。しかしアマゾンの創業者について書かれた本をアマゾンで購入して、1個人が批評して、そのコメントが大勢の人の眼に触れる、、、本当に凄い世界を作ったものです。

Some, but not all books, allow you to inhabit them and, at least while you are reading them, they become a part of your life; I can think of a few books like this and they are the ones that linger, that you return to, sometimes again and again. Certainly this book at a little over 400 pages takes some time to read, if, as I do, you read a little each evening before turning-in for the night, so I was slightly disappointed to have finished it. The story which covers the early genesis of what becomes Amazon, covers the early years and thereafter up to 2013, although I cannot imaging a sequel adding much to what has already been written, which is deep, extensive and in-glossed in its coverage of the ups and down of the Amazon journey. Jeff Bezos, the chief architect and principal character does not actually develop in a way that you could say that reading the book, you now know the man, but he is intrinsically bound up in the story and the edifice that is Amazon; the two are inseparable and give character, each to the other. Many people, other than Jeff inhabit the story and play their parts in the creation of the everything store and they come and go, for many reasons, not least exhaustion, but this account as everything and everyone becomes subsumed by the ethics that drive the inexorable rise of a monolith: is that the right word? Probably not; Amazon does not exclude the possibility of other such stores entering the market place, but the disruptive quality of the enterprise makes it seem unassailable, for not anyway. In the end, this is an interesting account of how a business develops, against all odds, due to the single-mindedness and resilience of one man, supported by an array of others, men and women, who for a while take part in the unfolding story. It is an account of how to do it and how to do it well, but also why you need a person of extraordinary grit and almost supra-human resolve. The book is amazing; it does justice to the character of Jeff Bezos, without over eulogising or ignoring his failures: read it.

Finally, I completed reading this book and I must say that the author has followed the Amazon journey very deeply. I cannot say that the book was entirely focused upon Jeff Bezos and the Amazon company, but it gives you insights about the important changes that took places in the dot com era. It clearly shows the effects of ignoring innovation. Amazon fought really hard during the tough years of depression and you can thank to Jeff's long sight vision for this accomplishment.

From Amazon, we can understand the importance of caring about your customers in true sense. Throughout Amazon's journey, they are having single motto of giving the best prices and experience to their customers. And, in order to achieve this, they can fight the world.

One of the important lesson that I learnt was that you create your own destiny. Jeff's biological father was not successful in life but on the other hand Jeff has excelled amazingly in his field. So, we should never blame our genes or the family for what we are.

Amazon started right from the Garage with 3-4 people and rose to multi billion business. A lot can be learnt from Jeff's personality too. He is able to balance his personal and professional life perfectly. And, in his life, his mother and wife has been supportive, always.

Vocab is used nicely through the book and I was able to learn a lot of new words for sure. This is a true masterpiece for all.
