Thirteen year old Jessie lives in a frontier town, Clifton Indiana in the year 1840. It is a nice comfortable town. Her father is a blacksmith which is indispensible and her mother looked after sick people at night when the local Doc was asleep. One day her mother discovered that the town was plagued with diphtheria. People were going to die without proper medicine. So due to circumstances Jessie was sent out of town to bring back help. This trip could prove deadly for Jessie as she is about to find her world turned up-side-down and we are also in for a shock as we discover a cabal behind a deadly plot.
They say that the people that write best are those people that write about what they know and Margaret Peterson Haddix actually knew of a tourist place similar to where our story starts. Yet the strength in Haddix's story is not as much the intriguing plot as it is her description of people and things. She makes you wonder what you would do.
I knew or thought I pretty much knew the story before reading the book as I saw the movie "The Village" (2004). However the movie was readjusted to match M. Night Shyamalan's standard formula including the standard ending twist. The book was more complex and did not need the minute twist.

Run For Your Life
Jessie lives with her family in the frontier village of Clifton, Indiana, in 1840 -- or so she believes. When diphtheria strikes the village and the children of Clifton start dying, Jessie's mother reveals a shocking secret -- it's actually 1996, and they are living in a reconstructed village that serves as a tourist site. In the world outside, medicine exists that can cure the dread disease, and Jessie's mother is sending her on a dangerous mission to bring back help.
But beyond the walls of Clifton, Jessie discovers a world even more alien and threatening than she could have imagined, and soon she finds her own life in jeopardy. Can she get help before the children of Clifton, and Jessie herself, run out of time?

I read this book when I was maybe 10, and as an adult I wanted to read it again. I was able to purchase it and read it as well as my 12 year old son. The story takes you on quite the adventure through time and then pulls you back to more modern times. It’s an aspiring story of a young girl willing to go above and beyond to save the people she loves.

An exciting read, I was out there running with the girl. I found the style comfortable, the pace steady, unrushed.
This book was plaigiarised to make a slow, boring film. We all know the name of it, but I won't name it here out of respect for an author whose writing surpasses excellence.
Five stars is not enough.

Awesome-mysterious/couldn't stop reading my 10th time reading!)

This was an awesome book because it was very must! It showed a lot of character and strength. Also it was well put together and I thought it was one of the best books she has written! It was styled perfectly and the lay out was very nice. There were great transitions and everything flowed so you would understand everything! Except at the beginning it was a bit confusing when they said the dates of Clifton and the outside world I got a little confused but then I regained the information put it together and understood. This is my 10th time reading this book and it was just as good as the first time! I actually think I could read this book everyday and not get bored because everyday I would read this I would understand more! It's not a one-time read it's were if you don't have a book to read, reread this one or reread it again because you never get enough info you always gather more information and understand better every time you never get bored and you never get to no everything that is happening in the book unless you read it a billion times which I would totally do! So this was a pan awesome book I recommend it to all and if you read this you can find me on Instagram and follow me if you actually read all the way down to were I finished and you can find me by looking up @swimmer129 and I should show up with a picture of me and my brother in Maine on the Geti with me with a pink sweatshirt! Also my name is Emily Murphy! Thx for reading and hope you like what I wrote and you read the book and think the same thing thx again and read😝📚
