2005年はアンデルセン生誕200年にあたり、図書館や書店などで

彼の作品を多く目にしました。そんな中でも異色の存在なのが

パツォウスカーの描いたこの『マッチ売りの少女』。

パツォウスカーの手にかかると、馴染みのある話しが

こうも新鮮なものになってしまうとは…　本当にため息ものです。

彼女の絵は超モダンでカラフル、まるで宇宙人か、100年後の人類の落書き

とでも形容できましょうか。

それなのに押し付けがましくなくて、ちゃんとストーリーを生かす

挿絵になっている。話しを説明する絵ではなく、想像力を刺激する絵

になってます。

彼女のファンはもとより、一風変わった味付けでアンデルセンを

読んでみたい方にもおすすめの作品です。

Great story. It is the kind of story that teaches your child the meaning of love.

I like reading this story to the kids during the holiday season because Christmas is not all about Christmas presents it is about sacrificial love.

A great story your kids they will get the message and if they don’t you can use it as a teaching tool.

The illustration is fantastic (Love the illustrator works.)

A very beautiful but sad tale that really shows some of the horrors of the olden times but also the beauty. A contrast of sides but without shoving it in your face.

I had forgotten that once upon a time, children who were once loved and cherished, often had to work for their families' survival, frequently retreating into a world of their own to escape the harshness of their tiny lives. This story will wrench at your heart - all the more so when you realize this was a way of life for the poor - and sadly still is today. The illustrations are beautiful, covering the entire page, which is a joy for children to follow along when you read aloud to them, as there are so many things to see! A important look into early 20th century America. Don't miss this opportunity to share this simple story with your children - the rewards reaped will long outlast whatever electronic toys they have.
