"Ice Angel" has been a pleasure to read from beginning to end, so much so , I ordered the second book in the series. Elizabeth writes with such ease and lightness, she shows such warmth and kindness to her characters you can't help but want to know more about them.
Isabella's story is not unusual for that period, she felt she had to marry to please her dying father, found herself bound to a nasty selfish brute who died leaving her and her son Dominic next to nothing to live on. Elizabeth introduces us to life in London's society, but also that of the less fortunate orphans that dwell in the dark corners of the city. Love, hate, intrigue and passion all brilliantly written.

When mysterious young widow Lady Isabella Vane arrives in London, she is quickly christened the "Ice Angel" because of her reserved manner and ethereal beauty. While society wonders at the reasons for Lady Vane's demeanor and the secrets that lurk in her past, the Earl of Bramwell continues in his devil-may-care approach to life. Hal has no desire for serious relationships with women since his own bitter disappointment several years earlier. However, once their paths cross, Hal's interest is sparked and he becomes obsessed with discovering what lies beneath the ravishing Isabella's icy exterior. But can Isabella ever overcome her past to find love?

Elizabeth Hanbury does it again!

Ice Angel by Elizabeth Hanbury is the first of the Cavanagh Family series, but it was A Bright Particular Star that re-introduced me to regency romances, and this is as strong as Miss Hanbury's other works.
I found myself falling heavily for Isabella, the so-named Ice Angel of the story, but it's the other characters, especially Hal, which make the story what it is - a thoroughly enjoyable tale.
I'll admit that I'm new to Georgette Heyer's books, but this stands up with one of my first fave authors - Jane Austen, and one might just think that a tea party with Jane, Georgette and Elizabeth...well - no-one should feel out of place!
Sometimes these tales are considered a light read - not a bit of it - the layers are well done and the character interaction - primary and secondary leads, are brilliantly done.
That just leaves The Paradise Will of the books I need to read of Miss Hanbury's. Suffice to say, she is a wonderful writer, really makes you feel the London style and Regency feel of the period...as well as creating a deftly told tale. I kind of wish I had read this story before A Bright Particular Star...and if you haven't read that one, I suggest you do. Now!

A good read for all regency lovers...

Heroine Isbella Vane has gone through some trying stuff, and comes out of it the other side a little emotionally worse for wear. She goes to London and gets the nickname 'ice angel' because of "her beauty and reserve". She brings with her a cute little boy, Dominic, and his collection of animals.
Enter Hal, the Earl of Bramwell, typical regency chap, except, you can't help but like him A LOT, especially when you learn that a woman he was engaged to 8 years ago ran off with a richer man (it can happen to the best of them right?) Isabella and Hal get closer, bit of an emotional game of cat and mouse, and things become even more complicated when this ex-fiance comes back on the scene and gets out her cat claws. She's really unhappy in her marriage now, which serves her right, really, because she is really horrid!
Finally things get sorted and it's a happy ending for all, and a really sweet subplot with Hals's sister and her guy, Freddie.
Only things that get to me is what Hal says to Isabella when they first meet, funny, I suppose, but not at all beliveable which is a shame, as is the end of the book that gives a chapter on what happens after the wedding day, which is pretty obvious, and I dislike having obvious stuff spelled out for me, and I'm the kind of girl who likes the bedroom door to close and that be it.
Apart from that, it was really enjoyable and you do end up caring for the characters and what happens to them and thats a definate sign of a good read.

As a Heyer fan I found this ok, some nice touches of realism among the romantic fantasy. The sex scene is unnecessary for me. The plot was not quite complicated enough, but could see where where it was coming from. Would try another, but lacks something. Perhaps I am just to picky!

This was a book with a great plot, original and intriguing. The characters were firmly portrayed and the story credible. I do enjoy this writer's work and will look for more of her books. It was one that stays in the mind and I thoroughly enjoyed it. HIghly recommended.
