Nadar was one of the greats, a wonderful photographer with an immense influence both on photography and painting, and a fascinating character - but books about him and his work are hard to find. This is a useful pocket guide, with the most important photographs and a good biographical essay (although lacking technical details).

Attention, livre en anglais.
Comme d'habitude dans cette collection "55", le format est pratique et les reproductions de bonne qualité. Et comme d'habitude aussi, on a fait écrire un anglo-saxon sur un photographe français, ce qui est dommage, et la reliure collée n'est pas d'une solidité à toute épreuve. L'histoire de Nadar reste passionante.

In order to have a true picture of the photographer's art one needs to know the pioneers, thus Nadar gives you insight into the French history to match with the early British and American founders. Nadar's portraits are telling but also his lighting experiments show you a great deal. His portraits of the great literary figures intrigue, but who else shows you the sewers of Paris as well as the early burial sites. Intriguing, very. Worthwhile.
