そんな彼も40歳を迎え、食べ物を健康という視点から考えたのが、この本です。この本の巻末には、基本的な栄養学が簡単にまとめられています。炭水化物、たんぱく質、脂肪の種類や働き、水の必要性、乳製品やアルコールの説明、睡眠についてなどが書かれています。私はそこが気に入っています。基本的な栄養学を英語で読むと、日本語よりもむしろわかりやすいので。
レシピ自体は、いかにも健康に気を遣った、オーガニック(自然食品)系の食材が多用されたものです。あまり健康健康とうるさいのはどうかと思いますが、いろんな食材を紹介するという意味では良いと思います。レシピにカロリー計算や栄養素が書かれてあるのも、気にしすぎは逆に良くないと思いますが、目安として参考にはなるので良いです。レシピに日本の豆腐が出てきたりして、「ああ、健康食だな」と思います。外国人の視点からの豆腐の使い方を見るのも、日本人としてはなかなか面白いものです。
また、健康な暮らしで有名な三カ国をジェイミーが旅した様子が書かれているのですが、その中に日本の沖縄が含まれているのです。
私は彼の著書をたくさん読みましたが、この本は中でも特にお気に入りのひとつです。
配送が雑なのか梱包がユルすぎたのか、角がかなりつぶれていたのが残念です。
