ダブルポイント 詳細
When Hannah Legare was eleven, her adored father, Buzz - notoriously charming doctor and family man - went fishing in the mouth of the Charleston harbour. Two days later, his boat was found drifting, holding nothing but his fishing rod and his waiting Labrador retriever. Twenty years later Hannah's new life in San Francisco is unravelling. Her marriage is on the rocks, her business is bankrupt, and she still can't shake her conviction that Buzz must be alive. After a disastrous - not to mention near-fatal - attempt to win her husband back, Hannah returns to her mother's Charleston home to reluctantly 'rest up', and she finds herself once again tugging at the loose threads of her father's disappearance. As Hannah attempts to understand the mysteries of the father she has lost and the husband she may be losing, she sets out on a uproarious, often misguided and sometimes downright dangerous quest and stirs up a hornet's nest of Charleston's secrets.

レビュー
'Katie Crouch's great gifts - a wry, unflinching intelligence and the ability to create flawed, complicated characters - drive this story of a woman who must reckon with her past in order to move into her future. Hannah is exasperating, magnetic, and breathtakingly real' Marisa de los Santos 'An opus of the struggle between a daughter and her father and the wounds and jubilation carried from that relationship into marriage and adulthood. It is, in turns, poignant, revealing, hilarious and sad ... Katie Crouch is an American original' Adriana Trigiani 'I couldn't put the book down ... Witty, sharp and warm all at the same time, with exactly the kind of flawed but fascinating characters I love to read about. I thought it was intelligent yet commercial, with lots of dark humour and real poignancy' Kate Harrison 'Both funny and touching. Crouch's storytelling skill will leave you wanting more' Image

Last month we decided to read this novel and Amazon made it easy to get for really cheap. Looking forward to our book club meeting at the end of August!!

Southern Family Mystery That Lures Readers Away From Reality
2011年7月25日にアメリカ合衆国でレビュー済みAmazonで購入
I can't begin to tell you how many books I stop and start. I can tell you how many books this year I've started that I couldn't put down: so far there have been 4 - and Katie Crouch's Men and Dogs is one of them.
I have to believe those one star reviews might be from other authors, or people who might know Katie and not like her, or simply, readers who don't appreciate books that are smart, funny, touching, and character driven.
I adore books about the south - southern families are so complex- and Hannah's family is about as complex as they come.
As an author myself, it almost pains me to read something so incredibly fluid; Kate has a way of flirting with both her words and the reader that makes it impossible to end a chapter without turning the page to find out what happens next.
This is about acceptance/family/forgiveness/and moving on. And quite simply, it's brilliant.

The book Men and Dogs is not what I expected. I would not recommend this book. It was really a strange story about a woman that had many problems.

A really good read, I loved the characters

I had devoured Katie Crouch's Embassy Wife over a weekend so I looked up other books by the author and picked up this one. A good combination of an interesting plot and characters, this is the kind of "contemporary woman whose life, family and problems interest me" novel that I really enjoy.

GOD no.

WOW. The boring, self-involved , self-referential ( not to mention ultimately self-absolving) tale of a tediously delusional , unsympathetic , spoiled narcissist . Golly , noone's ever written THAT before ! There may in fact be nothing entirely original left to write but jesus , make the effort. I'd run out of spit before I ran out of titles to recite that are, essentially , this story only MUCH better . The intelligent , even moderately cultured reader will want to smack the heroine . Repeatedly. I just hope that when I yard-sale the damn thing I'll be able to get more than a dollar for it . My advice to anyone considering purchase ? RUN AWAYYY !
