This writing and artist team up is one not to be missed, Matt fractions writing is fun and snappy not to mentioned paced perfectly and mike Allreds work is as always astonishing! There is one issue in the collection with a guest artist that though great still falls a little short next to Allred's but it doesn't hurt the book.

I read the first volume of Matt Fraction's Fantastic Four before I was willing to take a risk on this - but I'm glad I did! Scot Lang, She-Hulk, Darla Deering (Miss Thing) and Medusa are a great line up and are charming to read about both in action and back at the institute. Highly reccommended.

If Mike Allred's attached so am I. He got me hooked on his work with X-Statix and he's hit a solid triple for me with this title as well. It's quite the eclectic bunch with Antman (Scott Lang, not Hank Pym), Medusa, She-Hulk and this chick in a Thing suit all palling around and keeping NYC safe while the real FF are off in space.

I'm not the hugest fan of the Girl Thing but he got bonus points for her by injecting some Thing Ring action. She-Hulk's always been one of my favorites and I miss her Dan Slott series but this is a great salve for those wounds.

I'll keep reading as long as Allred's here.

This volume collects #4-8 of FF, which no longer stands for, but still follows, the Future Foundation.

The title is a very well-chosen pun, since the writing and artwork burlesques that of Lee and Kirby. Matt Fraction has tremendous fun both satisfying and subverting expectations, with situations and dialogue echoing the earliest days of the FF, and even the short-lived "Thing" cartoon of '79. The artwork is a geeky joy, M. Allred establishing a continuity ably continued by J. Quinones in issue #6. A particular favourite is the cut-out of the Baxter Building on p.49, parodying Kirby's of Fantastic Four #6.

The subversion continues in the action; since the blurb doesn't mention the villains involved, I won't. The light-heartedness of the tone doesn't detract from some well-realised threats.

New readers won't get nearly as much out of this as I did, which is why I've pulled back from a 5-star rating.
