Richard Baker works as an Origins award-winning game designer and Creative Director for the Forgotten Realms game line. His most recent credit is authoring the New York Times best-seller Condemnation: R.A. Salvatore's War of the Spider Queen, Book 3.

James Wyatt is currently an RPG game designer for Wizards of the Coast, Inc. His most recent credits include authoring Oriental Adventures and City of the Spider Queen and contributing to Deities and Demigods, the Epic Level Handbook, Fiend Folio, and Draconomicon.

本書は3.5eでForgotten Realms世界を遊ぶためのサプリメントで、3eの時のFRCSに追加して使用する形で用いられ、ルール面での変更点やFRCSで触れられた以降の歴史、これまで明確な形では使用が推奨されてこなかったPsionic Handbook、Book of Vile Darkness（『不浄なる暗黒の書』）、Book of Exalted Deeds の併用についてのガイドラインなどが書かれています。
3.5e用にこれまでの上級クラスが改訂されて採用あるいは追加される、Favored Classが廃止になった一方でRegionごとにFavored Deitieが記述される、Regional Featは１レベル時のみ修得可能になった、Featの再録、改訂、追加などが主なルール面の変更点です。
Mercantile Backgroundなどのかなり強力（DMにとっては凶悪）な特技も収録されており、パワープレイヤーの方にもお勧めできる反面、ワールドガイド的な側面はやや物足りない感もあります。
基本的にはこれまでのサプリメントに加えて本書を用いる（特にFRCSは必須）という形になると思われますが、本書がD&D3.5eでForgotten Realmsを楽しむために必要な、基本となるサプリメントであることは間違い無いと思われます。

Player's Guide to Faerun is a very good FR supplement, but it lacks any information on the facts that happened (are going to happen depending on the year your campaign is going on) after the Year of The Rouge Dragons. It focus a lot on the planes other then the material plane and prestige classes, but not much on geography and politics between the realms.
