This game is a lot of fun, and it does add a dimension of immersion to the game. The cards are of very nice quality, and the instructions are very straightforward and easy to understand! The art is nice, and if you are wondering how it is different from the original TDA, it isn't. Same cards and everything, just some rule revisions which they mark down so you can play the original if you want! IT IS NOT AT ALL RELATED TO 4.0, aside from the logo. This means you can use it with 3.5, and still hate on 4th edition!

Was curious about this product from wizards and have to say it is nothing spectacular. Not even sure if this is something I would use ever with the people I used to play table top with. The fact the this supposed to be a card game to pass time in a tavern or inbetween adventures seems to be a rather bore and poitnless endevor when you can come up with something better like letting the party play with a deck of many things and see which person explodes first.

Overall this is not really something I would recommend to buy, seems like a cash grab to me by Wizards. But if they are dirt cheap maybe it would be worth while to buy if you feel you can incorporate it get inspiration from.

The Three Dragon Ante; Emperor's Gambit card game consists of a 70 card, non-collectible card deck and a rulesbook. I won't discuss the rules much because there are various websites that show gameplay. What I do want to say, however, is that it plays similarly to the previously released version of the game with no subtitle, with only a few changes. First, Mortals no longer require paying 1 gold to play. Additionally, multiple cards within this release have an ante effect that only triggers when the card is played into the ante. Furthermore, along with that ante effect idea, the designer made a number of cards functionally change the ante by removing cards from it, forcing players to put cards into the ante and other effects that impact it. Finally, players' gold starts at a variable amount that depends on the number of players, rather than a set value. This seems to speed up games with fewer players, and extends games with more players. Finally, this edition is fully stand alone capable, but can also seamlessly be played with the previous game, thanks to the designers keeping the same card backs, sizes, and refraining from reprinting individual cards, with only one card's ability being functionally reproduced.

For those that have not played the first edition of the game, you do not need the first to play this one.

For anyone interested, the rulesbook contain optional rules a DM may accept when playing this game within a D&D session. One such example is a player trained in thievery may attempt to steal an additional gold whenever he would take from the stakes. Even without the additional optional rules, however, this game may be seamlessly played within a D&D session, or may just be a fun game to play for people that have no interest in D&D at all.

By far the best card game I own. My only complaint would be that I don't get to play it enough! We use real canadian loonies as gold in the game which takes it to the next level. Winning money from friends is always fun!
