Touch

My 18 month old and I have had this book for a few months now, and he really likes it. He has recently really shown a lot of interest in this book, and I am glad I have it. Good buy.

A must have book for a little one. All babies love the feel of it. Certainly a favorite and I buy it for all new babies.

My first word touch and feel
Dorling Kindersley books are always so attractive and bright; they stand out from their many imitators.
This `touch and feel' book is ideal for little ones happy to sit on your knee and be guided towards saying their first words in response to encouragement and fun. The pages are sturdy board; the pictures are clear, crisp, colourful photos of real objects, no ill-defined artwork or dated images to confuse.
The `feel' favourite must always be the furry teddy's tummy, accessible through a cut out circle on front cover. Ingeniously also there is a squishy bath sponge, a velvety dress, a fleecy jacket, dimpled orange, crinkly chips, bumpy tractor `tires' (this is an American book), a woolly sheep, a silky swimsuit and a rough, sandy sandcastle.
Friendly, jolly pictures of everyday items surround these surprises with each double page section set around a theme; Around the house, What do you wear? Things to eat, On the farm, and At the beach.
Cultural anomalies include the use of the words; pants for trousers, sneakers for trainers, overalls for dungarees, tank top for vest, rubber boots for wellington boots, French fries for chips, cookies for biscuits, rooster for cockerel, aforesaid tires for tyres, shovel for spade. This wouldn't matter if you weren't also marking out the words with your finger, say, but best to start out right from the beginning as the child may well be noticing more than you give it credit for. I set to sticking the English version over the USA words which only took a few minutes and made the book work for us.
A useful resource for me as a grandmother caring sometimes for a ten month old and an eighteen month old, the age range would stretch up to early readers too.

This is not a UK edition - US spelling is used
I ordered this book as we already have a similar title in the DK 'Touch and Feel' series, but was disappointed to find that this is the US edition using American terms for objects such as 'chips' for crisps and 'cookies' for biscuits (amongst others). Worst of all, the word 'tyre' is spelled as 'tire'. There is no warning about this on the item details, only stating the the language is 'English', not 'US English'.
