Nipponia Nippon

My baby loves the book

My 16 months old really enjoyed the book. She likes the graphics - which is done in black and white. We adults enjoyed the actual reading portion. The information is very educational. I can see my baby reading this book with a different perspective when she is older.

More interesting for adults than for children

As a designer myself, I appreciate the creative approach to the lettering--i.e., how the illustrator incorporated the picture of the animal into the alphabetical letter. That's not easy, and I felt the illustrator did a very good job.
However, the book is not very engaging for children. There's no story, the pictures are a bit abstract and hard to make out (for a child), and the black and white nature of the pages is kind of dreary. I think the concept of the book is interesting, but it's not very exciting for children.

A little dull for kids

Sharing a book is one of our favorite past times but my kids were totally not interested in this book. They wanted to see pictures of the animals and the black and white drawings were just not very interesting. I'm not sure what age group this book would appeal to.

This is a book not only for cuddling up with my grandchildren, but for their own quiet contemplation. The black-and-white drawings are delightful and clever. Multiple viewings just add depth to what a child sees.

Boring to children

This book was totally uninteresting to my grandchildren. It's a book that adults think will catch the interest of little ones and does not.
