Information Security Policies and Procedures: A Practitioner’s Reference, Second Edition illustrates how policies and procedures support the efficient running of an organization. This book is divided into two parts, an overview of security policies and procedures, and an information security reference guide. This volume points out how security documents and standards are key elements in the business process that should never be undertaken to satisfy a perceived audit or security requirement. Instead, policies, standards, and procedures should exist only to support business objectives or mission requirements; they are elements that aid in the execution of management policies.

The book emphasizes how information security must be integrated into all aspects of the business process. It examines the 12 enterprise-wide (Tier 1) policies, and maps information security requirements to each. The text also discusses the need for top-specific (Tier 2) policies and application-specific (Tier 3) policies and details how they map with standards and procedures.

It may be tempting to download some organization’s policies from the Internet, but Peltier cautions against that approach. Instead, he investigates how best to use examples of policies, standards, and procedures toward the achievement of goals. He analyzes the influx of national and international standards, and outlines how to effectively use them to meet the needs of your business.

I'm using this as a required text for Grad school. The content is just fine, but the Kindle edition of this book is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.

1.) There are no page numbers! Just kindle "location" references which range from 1 to 9721 - utterly frustrating when trying to find my assigned reading (I literally have to go to the "look inside" feature of the paperback/hardback version on amazon and look at the table of contents to find the correlation). And trust me, I've tried opening it on the PC edition to see if page numbers are just optional - nope they're not an option at all.

2.) Next to zero formatting! (actually the worst part of this) I never realized how unclear and hard to read this makes a book. For example, all of the Table of Contents are left justified (no indentation) and the heading and subheadings in the body of the text are all left justified which makes it very difficult to keep track of where you are in the process of reading. Big example: Appendix 1.C "Sample Standards Manual" has a table of contents with no numbering or font size system - its just all left justified so you have absolutely no clue about the heading and subheadings (and even sub-subheadings) it's madness!

"look insde" both the kindle and paper/hardback editions to see this for yourself. I'm going to do whatever can possibly be done to get a refund and go get this as a google or Barns and Noble e-book (which I can already tell both are actual books, not globs of words posing as an e-book).

I ordered this book a month ago for class. I am now in starting my third week of the class with no book. I have been getting help from my peers who have scanned to me the assigned reading pages. The seller claims that it may be my post office. I've been getting my daily mail, along with packages, regularly though. So where is my package!!! I've emailed the seller several times asking where is my package. I wouldn't have to ask if I was given a tracking #, but the seller said he didn't have one.
