アナベルという人形の語る、彼女の持ち主が体験してきた、惨劇。
2002年初夏より季刊ペースで刊行されている連作です。
脚本は「GloomCookie」のSerena Valentino。
そして絵は当時無名に近かったFSc（Foo Swee Chin）。
本書は初のTPB（単行本）で、第1～6話が収録されています。
第1～3話は病んだ精神を持つ女性をめぐるお話。
第4話は白雪姫を題材にした佳作。
これら最初の4話はサイコホラー的な要素を強く打ち出しています。
そして第5話では現在のアナベラの持ち主であるグウェンという少女が登場。
重要なエピソードであるとともに、
子どものころ誰もが抱く不安を見事に描いた、
このシリーズの傑作のひとつです。
第6話はシンデレラのパロディ。
アナベラがグウェンに昔話を語るというスタイルはここから始まりました。
それと同時に、作品のトーンも柔らかになっていきます。
いびつさ、痛ましさとともに詩的な美しさを感じさせる作品。
ひとりの夜にオススメします。

When the book first came in the mail I wasn't too sure. It's about a quarter of the size of a regular trade paperback; although I had read Serena Valentino's work before and expected to love this just as much as I lover her other comics, and naturally; I did. Nightmares and Fairytales is not at all what I expected, It's much darker and more grisly. Lots of gore. It's a horror comic for sure (and those nun's wimples! crazy!) it's kind of confusing but that will smooth itself over as the series gets going. The fairytales in this volume are: Snow White and Cinderella but for me the "nightmares" were more the focal points. We hear stories about Morgan (who's kind disposition and willingness to only see the good in people gets her into trouble, the back story of Dominique (Morgan's friend), and little Gwen who has to deal with two kinds of monsters (and it's easy to see which are more frightening.) The artwork is gorgeous too!
Very impressed with this volume, can't wait to get the next one!

My boyfriend is a HUGE comic book fan and he's spent the better half of last year trying to persuade me to join him. I'm a very picky reader though so it seemed like I'd never find my niche. I stumbled on this at a comic book store and paged through it I liked it enough to buy it and here's my review:

The art is beautiful in a childish comic book sort of way. The stories are dark and often tragic but they are still charming and fun. Every chapter is a different fairy tale story and interestingly the perfect mixture of scary, tragic, and cute. I definately recommend it.

This book has been one of my favorites for years, I'd gotten it way back in middle school, but after moving I'd lost it and was utterly heartbroken, but was so happy to be able to buy it again! I devoured this book the second it got into my hands, the shipping was super fast and the quality of the book was perfect; don't hesitate to buy this book, it's utterly amazing!!

This was a pretty awesome comic! I truly enjoyed the gothic artwork and the story telling was on par, however one nitpick would be that some of the art scene work didn't always flow as it should. Sometimes things happen that leaves the readers confused because it wasn't introduced properly. But none the less that wasn't such a big deal and I wouldn't even dock a star off this comic for it. If you like the dark and creepy feel of comics you'll definitely enjoy this!
