Being a fan of the original Alice in Wonderland, I was curious about how this book would play out. I was nervous with the prologue condemning Lewis Carroll but nevertheless persevered and was not disappointed. The story plays out like a movie with the writing being simple and yet detailed enough for a clear vision of character designs and setting. It was a fast paced read and leaves you wanting more, which is goof considering it is book one of a trilogy. It was recommended to me and I will gladly recommend it to everyone else.

I highly recommend this book. It is so unique and well plotted out. I love how it is tied in with reality and the real Alice Liddel. Wonderful book series.

I first read Hatter M Issue 1 on a website for free back in mid-2005. I was blown away by how cool this new version of Alice in Wonderland was. The name Hatter Madigan and Alyss, Aunt Redd, Bibwit Harte, Queen Genevieve, all sound so brilliant. What Beddor has done here is give more reality and more fantasy at the same time. Luckily I waited until Feb 07' to read the novel and not the comic for the full effect.
I fell in love with A.I.W Disney version as a little kid and in 2003 I performed in a Studen Directed 1 Act Play of the Manhatten Project of Alice In Wonderland Theatrical Play. I am a purist at heart and a realist at hand. I am in awe of this work. I never thought I would like something so far from the original.
The characters are my favorite part of the book. Hatter Madigan is by far my favorite. A lonely and romantic character not nearly explained enough but has the most imagination comming from Beddor:Hense Hatter M comic. Dodge is another great character that shows change throughout the book. Alyss too becomes a different person and transforms into what ultimately is her destiny. Bibwit, Jack of Diamonds, Hatter, Aunt Red, The Cat Assisin all stay the same throughout the course of the story and that is a good thing. The language of the book is it's own and words such as Millinery=Military Tarty-Tarts=candy Gwormies=incects. The Millinery of Chessmen and the enemy of Cards that fold out and attack. Aunt Redd was a surprise after I read the book because I pictured her sexy and devilish and that is just how she is drawn. There is definently a (V for Vendetta) feel with this story when it comes to the story of Aunt Red as a dictator.
My favorite piece of the book is when Hatter confronts Reverend Lidell and both A.I.W and T.L.G.W clash in a short extatic sequence. I hope in the next book Hatter M is explained fully if he hasn't been in the Comic that I haven't read yet. Hatter is the only character with no origin, much like Wolverine of the X-Men. You know he's the best at what he does, but where does he come from? Who where his parents and why is he what he is?
This book has trilogy written all over it. This is the first book that I was actually glued to. I read it in 3 days and will re-read. I wanted to read the English Novel with no illustrations so that when I went on the official website I could see conceptual art and drawinngs of the characters. I was impressed with the art of the characters, although it resembled closely that of the character drawings of Tim Sale and Jeph Loeb from Batman T.L.H. graphic novel. But I was glad to see that it wasn't anime or gothic, just beautiful characters. But, seroiously, whatever artwork it would have been wouldn't have mattered anyway because the story is that good.
The music score available for T.L.G.W is kind of a disappointment to me. I enjoyed track:1, track:3"who is alyss", and "Thru The Loocking Glass" but was annoyed by the soft-rock and dispelled rap of the last tracks. I thought the music would have been more instrumental but understandably the music is the same as the story in being different and also wierd.
All-in-All this is a must read. I can't wait to read the 2nd installment. And for those who cherrish the original Lewis Carrol novel should give this a chance. I would rate this novel as a 14+ years of age minimum to read. Hope this review was helpful to all.

Truly Fantastic

I know I read this book about 5 years ago, I then bought book 2 and 3 but never got round to reading them. I decided now was the time to finally read the whole trilogy, something was calling to me so I picked up book 1 and got stuck in.
After so long I really didn't remember much of this book, in fact mere fragments came back to me, so this was almost like a completely new book to me.
I have a thing about anything to do with Alice in Wonderland, it's always been one of my favourite stories so I will always go for things that are adaptions of it. I have been disappointed in the past though, but I am pleased to say this is not one of those series.
Here we meet Alyss, 7 years old and the Heir to Wonderland. Playful and naughty with no real thoughts of ruling in the future, her parents are there and she doesn't have to worry. Until her Aunt Redd makes an appearance, forced to run for her life with their trusty bodyguard Hatter Madigan, Alyss flees through 'The Pool of Tear's and ends up in our world. Her parents are killed and Queen Redd takes over Wonderland.
Hatter and Alyss get separated on their way through the Pool of tears and end up in very different parts of our world. Alyss in Oxford where she meets the legendary Lewis Carroll who becomes famous with her story (though he changes so much it's just lies!).
Hatter must track down Alyss and try to get her back to Wonderland where she can resume her rightful place and banish her evil aunt.
This world is so detailed and amazing that it really feels like you are walking through Wonderland and meeting all the enchanted characters, the words seem to lift of the page and envelop you in their magic. Not your traditional happy fairytale this book is a lot darker, but it's not particularly scary - just action packed and very exciting.
I love Alyss as a character and seeing how she grows and develops as a character. The rest of the 'cast' are great too, I love Hatter, and the representation of 'The Cat' is probably my favourite.
I read this in about half a day and found myself desperate for more. It is really addictive and captivating, I strongly recommend it.

Great condition for a USED book. The artwork is incredible. Not like the alternative, dark copper march of the metal card soldiers. This version showcases the awe-inspiring magic of Wonderland.
