Jonathan Clements is well known for his biographies of figures from Chinese history, including Chairman Mao, Confucius, Empress Wu, Khubilai Khan and Marco Polo, as well as a highly regarded history of Beijing. His biography of the First Emperor was itself published in Chinese. His most recent book is a new translation of Sun Tzu's Art of War.

Despite how small and short this book is it provides great coverage of the key events in modern Chinese history - and in more than superficial detail. The subject matters are necessarily broad, but all are dealt with with a sense of authority. The book title may be publishing hyperbole, but it's not far off the truth. An excellent investment for newcomers and old China hands alike.
