Bought this book and now I am searching amazon.ca for a new IOS dev book. I'm only on page 40 and I am confused. I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone who doesn't have a lot of programming experience. Be prepared to be scratching your head and trying to piece things together from downloading the sample code and wondering why the code in the book isn't even close to the code you download from the website. All in all this book is lacking a technical editor, I don't know how it got published in the state it is in.

What a mess...
This book is very poorly written. Run on sentences make it very difficult to understand and follow along. none of the examples work. I gave up by the 3rd chapter. This was an expensive book. I'm sorry I wasted my money.

Just a word of warning, I thought because the publishing date on this is Nov, 2013 it would cover iOS 7, it does not. Its very important in a beginners game programming book to be able to run all the code. I had trouble with the very first hello world program because it uses a deprecated font function. Im giving this book 3 stars only because I only started reading the book and I dont know if its good or bad.

Highly Recommended for Aspiring Game Developers

I am learning iOS programming in hopes to someday develop games for people to download. I still consider myself a beginner, but this book helped me take a few big steps forward.
If you have basic, but solid, iOS programming experience, you should be able to follow this book. The author provides good explanations of the concepts (e.g., simple animation, 2D, 3D, collision detection, game loops, sound, OpenGL ES, OpenAL, Box2D, etc), and all the examples actually work. He consistently explains "why" and "how" throughout the book.
The only caveat is that some figures do not match with the text. And on some occasions, you may be thrown off by the author's writing style because English does not seem to be his first language. But for the most part, it does not pose any problem. More importantly, he clearly knows game programming inside and out, and his love for the topic shows with the demonstration of his knowledge in the history of computer games. I think the benefit far outweighs some minor shortcomings.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone learning iOS game programming.
