With the success of THE SECRET, some of the older "positive thinking" gurus are being dusted off and reissued. Allen wrote on the vanguard of the movement, which was facilitated by the marginalization of Protestantism's doctrine of original sin by some Christian leaders in the 1950s. Charley Steiner's brusque, deep voice seems hurried, perhaps due to time restrictions concerning the capture of the entire book on a single CD. He is unconvincing as he delivers the name-it-and-claim-it platitudes that will be repetitive to those who are familiar with them and cloying to those who are not. He has a tendency to fire the bromides rapidly, barely allowing the each one to make its impression before restating it. いろいろな翻訳があるので、気になって読んでみた。kindle unlimitedのおかげで原書にあたれた。翻訳って一旦第三者（翻訳者）の言葉に置き換えられているので合わないと気持ち悪い。特にこの本なんか100年以上前に書かれたものだから今風の言葉で訳されてもねー。最近出版された訳本はひどい

他にペーパーバックも含め、同タイトルの本は多く出版されているが、私はハードカバーで古風な感じの表紙の本書が気に入った。
約100年前に書かれた自己啓発本の元祖といえる本書。言い回しは昔の英語で堅苦しいが、格調高い名文である。
本書を開くたびに何らかの心に響く著者のメッセージが感じられる。
僅か60ページしかない本書であるが、その持つ言葉の威力と存在感は他の本を圧倒するような感じを受ける。

I have read this book many times when I travel to work. It makes me feel good and it gives me ideas on how to live better. It is a wonderful, fast to read book. Everyone should have it.

You are what you think. You are literally the sum of your thoughts. Action only comes once the seeds of thought have been planted and sowed. James Allen leads listeners to self-improvement through his inspiring and simple message: you are what you think. I also highly recommend "Open Your Mind, Open Your Life: A Little Book of Eastern Wisdom" by Taro Gold - which is written in much the same spirit as James Allen's work. Excellent!
