まず装丁はハードカバーに黒の布張りです。内容はヘルボーイ作品の他、BPRD、ゾンビワールド等のイラストも集録。カラーイラストの他にアイデアスケッチや着彩前の原稿、コミックで使用しなかったページもあります。カラーイラスト約100ページ、モノクロ約60ページ、アイデアスケッチ約30ページの構成です。

ヘルボーイの画家、コミックアーティスト、マイクの画集で厚さは２００ページ。画家のキャラクター、下絵、色ページもある。構図、デザイン、色彩の決定的選択、人物表現に独特な個性と切り口が
あり、デッサンも当然ながらグレート、驚異的センスの持ち主で秀逸なのは白と黒の配置、フォルム、バランス感覚で、ブラックアンドホワイトテクニックはさえにさえまくり、見事としか言えない。素晴らしい。座右に１冊お勧めします。ただしお断り.わたしは作品のストーリーとかは読んでません。

　下記レビューに黒ハードカバーの記述がありますし、商品説明の欄にはペーパーバックの場合でも「ハードカバー」と記載されています。が、３千云円の商品は紙で閉じられたカバー無しの装丁となってます。

　とハードカバーの違いに注意してください。値段も相当違いますが。

　内容は変わりませんよね。多分。

　
　黒とカラーのコントラストが美しい。ラフ画、本編の漫画もあります。
　そういえばラフ画を見ても森本晃司と共通する部分があるような感じがしますね。

　線で表現できる可能性ってまだまだ広がりそうですよね。

　好きなら買ってみましょう。

　ただしペーパーバックの方の表紙は、完全な紙なので。取り扱いにも注意。

 Recentemente si è conclusa in America la saga (forse l'ultima?!?) di Hellboy in Hell. Occasione questa per rispolverare questo artbook di Mike Mignola che mostra il dietro le quinte di uno dei personaggi più interessanti degli ultimi vent'anni.

Creato da Mignola nel 1993 ha subito riscosso un grosso successo e non è difficile capire il perché.
Le storie dal sapore retrò sono solide e, mese dopo mese, hanno costruito un intero universo di personaggi credibili e solidi. Storie che prendono a piene mani dai miti e dalle credenze popolari si dipanano all'interno di una storia principale che (spoiler) porterà Hellboy all'inferno.

Ma sicuramente quello che ha reso grande questa serie sono stati i magnifici disegni di Mignola.
Dotato di un tratto stilizzato ha sempre fatto delle atmosfere il suo punto di forza.

Personaggi e scene dinamici, neri pieni e uno storytelling sempre adatto alla storia, mai monotono o noioso.

Questo volume propone illustrazioni, matite e chine di Hellboy fin dai primissimi periodi, quando il personaggio era ancora in gestazione, fino alle ultime, splendide illustrazioni ad acquerello.
Tanti disegni di design, layout di tavole e copertine. Interessanti tutti gli studi a matita dei tanti mostri che popolano il fumetto.

Questa edizione softcover conta quasi 200 pagine fitte di materiale.
Manca forse una parte editoriale che accompagni i disegni.

Comunque consigliatissimo per chi ama, come me, Mike Mignola, Hellboy e tutto il suo universo!

Mike Mignola is the master of what not to put in a finished peice of art. While he draws loads of details with the original pencil lines as soon as the ink is applied, he buries them. What makes that technique work so well is that regardless of no evidence of the black flooded pencils the viewer knows the details are there. That masterful ambiguity is what makes the Hellboy art so creepy, menacing. From out of the shadows lurch horrors not meant for the eyes of humans. This is quirky, fun and scary without having to overwork the skilled designs and careful layouts. When I look at all the cartoony comic artists, with their minimalist leanings, and contrast them with the guys who insist on drawing every hair on a head while laying in invented overdone musculature that fairly bulges through a sweatshirt, it is refreshing to see Mignola's seeming ease and inpeccable black spotting that shapes even the things not seen, but definitely suspected, along with shambling ancient horror and explosions of combative violence in the defense of the human race against festering ancient evil.Words? In this book? My brain is full of words unread but ever present. That's Mike's other gift to me.My only question is when will we see a volume collecting his myriad other works?
